Estoy esperando los shows acústicos.
Blackoustic Two Genies ... One Universe Exclusive for Central and Latin America
Conexion Rock Radio in its special interviews continues to provide good interviews to its followers about the current events of the different bands and projects around the world, and our next guests will call attention not only by their names, but by the interesting proposal to take their legacy to a space where instruments are unplugged and only silence is interrupted by a guitar and voice where Power Metal and Hard Rock are taken to a delicate and at the same time elegant terrain.
We have talked with the voice of Blackoustic, the charismatic Timo Kotipelto, well known for his role in bands like Stratovarius, Cain's Offering or his solo project, who shares first impressions related to the tour that they are currently doing in several countries. of Latin America, and that in their map have their presentation in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and that shares this adventure with the guitarist Jari Liimatain who has made history in his years with Sonata Arctica, and who have recently released his debut called Blackoustic, getting a good reception from the rock and metal community around the world, and in this interview you will know their origins and expectations for the future:
Conexion Rock Radio: Hello, Timo! I am Johonny Gonzalez from Conexion Rock Radio from Honduras, Central America, it is an honor to have you here in this special interview for our audience in Latin America and other continents, welcome! Timo Kotipelto: Hi Johonny thanks for having me in this interview a pleasure! CR: Start the interview in knowing what impressions you have and Jani Liimatainen in this tour that you are doing in Latin America with the Blackostic project? TK: It’s been a pleasure to come over and this time with duo! We have been surprised by the warm welcome from the fans! CR: What expectations have you of the first dates that you done in South America, the audience in Central American especially Honduras will welcome you with open arms. TK: The first 4 shows (I am writing this in Uruguay) have been super nice. People really seem to like our acoustic versions, pay attention to the songs, they actually listen and when I ask them so sing a long - they sing very loud! A big surprise to me was also that they like more our own stuff compared to cover songs. So we have changed the set a little bit during the tour. Put in a couple of more Strato songs and so on.
CR: Let's talk about Blackoustic, we know that they released their debut album with the Edel Music label, how was the idea of make a project with Jani with acoustic songs of Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Cain's Offering and some covers? TK: The idea to record this album came actually from the fans. They were recording our shows in Finland at many gigs. Once I went to ask one fan why was she recording all the songs. And she said she wanted to listen to our versions of the songs at home. And asked why don’t you record an album? We thought about it for few months and decided to do it. It took some time to find the songs that could be played by one guitar and two vocals only. But I think we got some nice arrangements in the end. It’s not very easy to find a metal song that sounds decent when played with an acoustic guitar.
CR: How do you feel about working with a great musician like Jani who is very remembered in his years with bands like Altaria, Sonata Artica and now currently with Offering and The Dark Element TK: I have been working together with Jani for the last 10 years. We met in 2000 on Stratovarius tour when Sonata Arctica were supporting us. Now he is one of my best friends. Very talented guy and we have the same kind of humor. CR: How do you feel when making a completely acoustic set instead of a traditional Heavy Metal show? TK: It’s different for sure. When you are only two guys and one guitar on the stage it is more intimate and relaxed compared to a full band. In a way it is more demanding to capture the moment with less people. And of course audience can hear if we make mistakes. But that’s part of the show. We just laugh about it. Sometimes our acoustic shows are close to stand up comedy. But with worse jokes of course (laughs)
CR: Many will think that Blackoustic is a tribute project or wish to make their own songs for another album in the future? TK: People have been asking for the next acoustic album already. But we haven’t decided yet. No time at least this year. I think we will not compose full album of new songs but there might be some. In case we would record a second one.
CR: Without doubt you are one of the most recognized voices on the radar of Power Metal around the world, many think How do you do to maintain humility at the peak of your career? What do you think about that kind of comments? TK: Thank you very much! I never think of myself as one of the best singers. I just love singing and I am happy if other people like my voice too. Basically I am bit shy guy from the small village in the middle of Finland. And still am.
CR: Many expect news about Stratovarius as from Cain's Offering and from your solo project, are there new albums underway for this year? TK Currently we are writing songs for the next Stratovarius album. Of course I am away for 6 weeks on this tour so there is a bit break for me. I hope we can put the album out next spring. Jani has already a couple of new songs for CO. Let’s see when we have time to record the album since she is busy too with other projects. CR: What is your perspective to see the evolution of a great band like Stratovarius? TK: Stratovarius have had ups and downs. I am thankful that we still have a lots of fans all over the world. We are still active and the last years we have been coming back. I see the future for the band quite bright. And I am already enthusiastic about the next album.
CR: Destiny in 2018 turns 20, do you prefer to celebrate live albums or make new material? TK: I think our record label might be planning to release something special. We have not decided to play any Destiny related theme shows.
CR: To your point of view: The best album and the most underrated of Stratovarius? TK: Best is probably Visions. Underrated…hhhmm… Maybe Episode.
CR: What words do you want to send to those who have read us in this interview and who will soon have the opportunity to see them on their Central American tour? And again, thanks for answering our questions at Conexion Rock Radio TK: I am very happy to be back in Central America! You guys are the best fans in the world. I am looking forward to the acoustic shows. Come to check us live. It might be once in a lifetime experience. Thanks for your support!!!!
