Sí, ¡rock on!
Infinitas A New Wave of Swiss Folk for the World
If you like traditional Heavy Metal and want to combine it with Folk, here something interesting will come out, and that a band seeks to conquer new audiences and take their sound as far as possible, and increase their legion of fans in several continents.
With the sound of Folk Metal we bring you in this new episode of the International Radio Connection Interviews to INFINITAS, a band that was formed in 2009, and that they start to reap an interesting career with two EPs and a studio album, and all It indicates that we expect new surprises from them in the coming years.
In this time we talked with their vocalist Andrea Böll, who shares the story and news that Infinitas has this year after the release of his EP Skylla and eventually a new work in progress.
Conexion Rock Radio: Andrea, is an honor to have you here in our special interview for our audience in Latin America and other continents, welcome! Start the interview in knowing the news that Infinitas has for their fans around the world this year, they will soon release an EP called Skylla, and there are changes in the formation of the band. What details can you share with us about the EP and the new members? Andrea Böll: Hey Johonny! We already released the EP in May and made it directly into the top 20 of the Swiss charts. This was really a cool moment and one of the highlights of this year. Also the fact that we have a complete line up again is really great! Martin and his bass fit very well into the formation. Irina has only been in the band since the beginning of this year and complements the place on the violin very well.
CR: The reception with the single Skylla has been very positive a week after being released on video, can you tell us where the video was recorded? Everything indicates that it will be a good start in this new page for the band.
AB: In fact, the video has been very well received by our fans and has attracted a lot of new fans. We ourselves are enthusiastic about the result. The video was shot at various locations in our home canton Schwyz, including the Muotathal, where we come from. It is important to us not to hide our roots and to integrate them into our concept. It is our first video clip and has cost us a lot of sweat, blood and nerves. Sure, we had fun too, but things didn't go as we had imagined. In the end we were just happy that we could finally hold the video in our hands to publish it.
CR: What impressions has the band had from fans around the world with their debut CIVITAS INTERITUS? AB: CIVITAS INTERITUS was very well received around the globe, not only by our fans, but also by the German Metal Hammer and the German Legacy. Many reported back to us that they hear the record up and down and it never gets boring. Also the fact that we did the intro in Swiss German was well received everywhere. We are glad that this is so, because it will not remain the last concept album. We are already planning another one by continuing the story.
CR: In a few words we will have a new album by Infinitas in 2018 Andrea? AB: Yes, as mentioned above, we are planning another one. As I mentioned earlier, there will be a continuation of CIVITAS INTERITUS. When we are going to publish it, it is still not clear, but we want to take the time we need to create an album of at least the same quality as the previous album. This includes not only the music, but also all the planning of the concept, the history, etc. There is a lot of work and a lot of fun!
CR: Let's talk about the history of the band, we know that it was founded in 2009, how did you meet with the idea of forming a project that later would be Infinitas? AB: Piri and Selv wanted to form a thrash band that would break up the tight thrash pattern. Some kind of modern thrash metal. Your idea: Thrashmetal with female vocals and violin. This resulted in Infinitas. Stubborn thrash metal turned into melodic metal with thrash and folk influences or as one fan once described it very well: a mixture of Iron Maiden and Eluveitie.
CR: After several sessions the band enters the studio to record their Self-Destruction EP, what experiences have they left to you to start their history in music? AB: Oh, yeah, that was a while ago. I may remember it well. I was there only a few months in the band and already had to record 3 songs. On the one hand this was very action-packed, on the other hand it was also a very great experience. At that time we recorded and mixed everything completely ourselves in the bandroom and gave it to mastering externally. I remember Selv was in the bandroom for days mixing the sound together, getting the results into rehearsal and we added our mustard. After almost two years, we were finally able to smile and show the baby to the public. It was very hard work combined with lots of discussion, fun, sweat and passion. A very great experience. Nevertheless, we realized, once again everything completely ourselves, we will not do more.
CR: Currently Infinitas looking for a record label that can support you internationally? Or do you prefer to make your albums independently? AB: We don't actively look for a label, no. We want to manage and promote everything ourselves as long as possible. But if a label came up with a really cool deal where we could stay true to ourselves, we would have no problem dealing with it.
CR: What´s Infinitas' perception of the music scene in Switzerland? There are many interesting bands that fight for an international recognition, what do you think about it? AB: I think that's great! This shows that we have a small but very active metal scene in Switzerland. We have many good musicians who like to work more ambitiously. However, the market in Switzerland is completely saturated in the scene, so that it is imperative to think beyond the Swiss borders and to give concerts in Europe or even in the whole world. But I find this very positive, because concerts abroad broaden the horizon and also open new friendships and wickets.
Of course it is all the more difficult to gain a foothold at home and abroad as a metal band, because there are now many good bands, but I prefer an active music-making scene that produces an immense variety of artistic material, rather than a scene that also lives actively, but only produces artists that sound exactly like everyone else in the scene.
CR: Do you currently have plans to tour in other European countries? AB: Yes, we were only recently in Croatia for a concert and we certainly want to go to Germany, Austria and maybe Italy next year. Depending on where we are heading, other countries may appear on our radar. In any case, we want and have to spread our name, our music and our live performance everywhere we can.
CR: What is Infinitas' vision for the future within the metal scene worldwide? AB: We want to relax our wings everywhere and gain a foothold in the international scenes. Our positive energy should be felt and enjoyed by the whole world. It is important to us that we can remain true to ourselves, our sound and our fans, even as we continue to develop. Being close to our fans is important to us, so we also want to build an exclusive fan platform where our fans are the focus and not necessarily us. The aim is to create a self-dynamic community where fans can exchange ideas and get in touch with each other. We will also raffle goodies for fans and add other extras.
CR: What message do you want to send to those who read this interview, and thanks for answering each of our questions? AB: Thanks for reading! We look forward to seeing you soon at a concert! Of course we are always happy about a like on our Facebook page! Yeah, rock on!
CR: Andrea, thank you for the time given in this interview, the best of luck for you and your bandmates in your next live performances, likewise to Markus Eck of Metalmessage for putting us an interesting band in our sonic radar, and we hope in the future to receive good news from you! AB: Thanks to you too!
