CR: En este nuevo álbum encontramos grandes canciones: Get In The Ring, Heidrun, Oden Owns You All, Dawn of Norsemen y Skagul Rides with Me, pero el álbum es excelente de principio a fin.

AMON AMARTH
A Great United Army If you are a fan of Nordic themes related to Viking mythology, get ready for the biggest of parties because one of the strong exponents of Melodic Death Metal returns with a new adventure that it seeks to share with its fans in addition to devoting yet another page to its growing history. Conexión Rock Radio has talked with Johan Söderberg, guitarist of the band Amon Amarth, who present their new album called The Great Heathen Army, which seeks to conquer the demanding taste of its fans and conquer new legions around the world with its sound. Söderberg shares interesting details about the recording process, which was considered a compositional challenge in the midst of a pandemic, special guests, a brief retrospective on their extensive discography, and the plans the band seeks to carry out once the restrictions are lifted in many countries they are raised and in this way make communion with many who have appreciated their proposal over the years. Amon Amarth are conformed by Ted Lundström- Bass, Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg- Guitars, Johan Hegg- Vocals, and Jocke Wallgren- Drums. Enjoy this interview that we offer you with these Vikings where they make a resounding echo in various parts of the world so that you are already part of A Great United Army. Conexión Rock Radio: Johan, thanks for the time you dedicate to this interview at home for our readers, and especially to the fans of Amon Amarth who are with great anticipation of the news that you have soon, an honor to talk with you! Johan Söderberg: Good evening from Sweden, Johonny, nice to meet you, and of course an honor to be able to talk to someone from far away as part of our agenda for the release of the new album. CR: We started this conversation talking about The Great Heathen Army, the new album that Amon Amarth will release on August 5, 2022 through Metal Blade Records.
By the way, congratulations, here we have another great album that the people enjoy once listen the material in physical and digital formats What reactions do you have from people with the 2 singles that the band has released in the last few weeks? JS: The reception of the people has been very overwhelming, and for us that is a very good sign a few days after the album is released, we have read interesting comments that the album has taken up the sound of the first albums and in special mentioning a dark atmosphere, and everyone seems to enjoy it. CR: That's very interesting, but it will be even more interesting when people enjoy the album from start to finish in all the formats. By the way, three years have passed since the release of Berserker and then, as you know, the world goes on a two-year hiatus without touring or concerts. How has the pandemic influenced the writing of the new album? JS: The truth was there was a lot of frustration when all that happened, we couldn't do tours or shows, and all that energy we channeled into the composition process, for that reason the sound and the songs now sound more brutal reflecting everything we've been through. CR: What is your point of view that the music of many bands including Amon Amarth have remained strong during these years of pandemic, or do you consider that the music industry has a challenge that it has not yet been able to overcome despite the fact that we have vaccines and other things in development?
JS: Thanks to this pandemic many bands had to give up music and break up, others have been struggling to survive, and fortunately we are living this to tell the tale. It was two and a half years of absence in all musical activity and we have many things that we have not been able to do since the beginning of the pandemic, so the good news starts in September when we will tour in Europe with Machine Head and then we will do other dates with our friends from Cattle Decapitation. It will be very exciting to play again for many people on these dates that we will soon be announcing on our networks. CR: That's good news one wishes to share with the world Johan, and best of luck in advance with tow greatest bands like Machine Head and Cattle. By the way, one of the strengths of the album is the production courtesy of the great Andy Sneap, curiously the last participation with the band with him was for Jomsviking in 2016, how do you feel about working with Andy again?
JS: We have worked with Andy again because we liked the way he has produced our previous works, on the other hand, it is very easy to work in the studio. In addition to being a guitarist, he provides us with a more comfortable atmosphere in the studio, and he gives you tips and tricks on how to play better and thus be able to polish our sound. CR: On this new album we find great songs: Get In The Ring, Heidrun, Oden Owns You All, Dawn of Norsemen and Skagul Rides with Me, but the album is excellent from start to finish.
By the way, the cover vaguely reminds me of Manowar's Warriors of the World because of the warriors and the flags. What does Amon Amarth offer us with Heathen Army? JS: We wanted to do something new and different with the cover. Many might think mere references to a Manowar cover or a Destroyer from Kiss, the people will be expecting a viking on the cover, although we've done that on our previous releases so this is the first time we've all been featured on the cover along with other warriors and flags representing other countries. People will definitely notice the reference at first sight. CR: Here we have one of the strong surprises on the album and it is on the track Saxons and Vikings which has the presence of the great Biff Byford of the band Saxon, those of us who have a well-tuned ear recognize Biff's voice from afar, what impressions have the band about the participation of a great vocalist like him?
JS: We had the idea kept somewhere for a long time to talk about Saxons and Vikings, when we were starting the recording process of the album we immediately thought of Biff and we proposed the idea of him having in a special appearance, we sent him the song and he came to Andy's studio for a couple of days and we watched his participation take shape, since his house is near there, things were easy and we are very happy with his contribution, Johonny is sure of one thing, if we had recorded the album in another studio surely the song would not have been on the album now. CR: It will be a matter of seeing people's reactions when they listen to this track in particular Johan, as we all know Amon Amarth has taken great advantage of drawing inspiration from Norse mythology, do you consider that this universe is extensive for you when composing a song? lyrics, or do you think that everything has a limit from the point of view of composition? Maybe people think that the band could tackle other cultures
JS: I don't think so, Norse mythology is an inexhaustible source of inspiration where you can get stories everywhere. There are old stories where you give it a fresher approach and that's where we rescue that to adapt it to our music. CR: Amon Amarth and Metal Blade have a history of many years together, releasing their entire catalog until today, being your part of the band how you feel to be part of a label that is the cradle of great bands around the world. ?
JS: We have a kind of musical friendship with the label during all these years, in my case I prefer to always be with them. We always have a mutual understanding at the time of working on the recording and promotion of our albums and I have no complaints about the performance that Metal Blade has done in all this time, we always have great respect and admiration for a name that has been an influence for several generations. CR: This year one of Amon Amarth's albums celebrates its 20th anniversary, and we refer to Versus the World, the big question is: if the band plans to do a tour revisiting the album, or will you release a special edition?
JS: The truth is that we don't have plans for the options you are commenting on, since we are planning everything for the next tours and for now we are not looking to focus on Versus The World material, our priority will be with the new album. But we will release the single Put Your Back into the Oar and the B-side will be the re recording of the song Masters of War that originally appeared on The Crusher. CR: It will be a collector's item that people will want to have, so Metal Blade will have the task of making this a pleasant surprise for the fans. Speaking of fans, Johan, who is the most dedicated audience at a concert? Europeans or Latin Americans? JS: Latin Americans, especially those from the south, from all regions in the world this is my favorite place to play because you are the most crazy and passionate fans I have ever seen in a totally different environment. CR: At the end of this interview Johan, what message do you want to send to all the Vikings around the world who unconditionally follow the band, and thank you for the time you gave us for this conversation on Conexión Rock Radio.
JS: Thanks to you, Johonny, for this interview and my message to all our fans is to enjoy this new album that will not disappoint you, to be aware of the concerts that we will be preparing between Europe, America and Latin America, which we are very anxious to see. play for you again, for now take care of yourselves at home and when it's time for the album to come out let it be a global celebration that we all have with our music that is for all of you! Special thanks to Sarah Lutz and Natasha Gorey from the Metal Blade press and promotion team for making this possible, and to Johan Söderberg for his time on this opportunity.
For upcoming news, concerts, purchase of their material and contacts, we invite you to follow them on their Official Facebook, their Website and on the Metal Blade Records online store.
