AT THE MOVIES
CR: Waiting For A Star To Fall, I Want It That Way, Venus, (I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight, Heaven Is A Place On Earth, (You Drive) Me Crazy, Crush, son puntos fuertes de este nuevo álbum, y que la gente espera disfrutar en sus conciertos.

AT THE MOVIES
An Elegant and Cinematic Soundtrack Conexión Rock Radio in its international interviews has for all of you an interesting proposal that appears on our sonic radar, and that for those who are lovers of 80's music, classic movies and hard rock with a modern touch, are the elements for a band to appear on stage that seeks to inject a breath of fresh air into these convulsive times, and that seeks to unite the whole world with its sound, evoking nostalgia on the one hand, and on the other a worthy rescue of things that were buried over time and now… they are back to stay. Ladies and Gentlemen, with you: AT THE MOVIES A band originally from Sweden that will return to action in 2022 with their new record production called The Soundtrack Of Your Life, which was released weeks ago through Atomic Fire Records, and this time we talked with the mastermind behind this project. : Chris Laney, who provides interesting details about this new album, and the excellent reception they have from various countries around the world. At The Movies was formed at the beginning of 2020 at the initiative of Laney, who is passionate about retro, especially music, and who, thanks to that concern, would invite a select group of friends from other bands to shape a project that at first would be born as a hobby, resulting in The Soundtrack Of Your Life Volume 1, but with the reactions of people to their striking proposal they decided to be a full-time band. Currently the band is made up of Björn "Speed" Strid- Vocals, Linnéa Vikström Egg- Vocals, Chris Laney and Pontus Norgren- Guitars, Morten Sandager- Keyboards, Allan Sørensen- Drums, and Pontus Egberg- Bass. Get comfortable, get some popcorn, soda, pizza or any snack so you can have a good time in this report, without missing of course the band's music in this special report, enjoy what At The Movies offers this year, where they invite you to experience in first person an Elegant and Cinematic Soundtrack Conexión Rock Radio: Greetings from Honduras Chris, I hope everything is fine back home, and it is an honor to be able to talk with you and share with our readers from Latin America and the rest of the world about the news that At The Movies has this year, Welcome! Chris Laney: Hi Johonny, an honor to speak with someone from far away on this occasion, and thanks for the interest in talking to your people about At The Movies. CR: I start my conversation with you in knowing how things have been for the band in recent months there in Sweden, have the concerts there been reactivated or are they all still under lockdown? CL: For now, Johonny, there are no events since everything has been blocked and there are no places to be able to do concerts, we will see in a few months if all this changes and thus be able to resume all our plans that have been canceled since 2020 in a abrupted way. CR: Let's hope everything gets better over there Chris, we know that you are very eager to show what you have in hand for your fans, and we will talk about that now. The band has released their second album called The Soundtrack Of Your Life Vol II at the beginning of January through Atomic Fire Records, by the way, congratulations, the album is considered one of the best releases in this first quarter, and at the same time it has climbed in the European and international charts. How do you feel about the great reception you have given the album since the moment it was released?
CL: I must say that it is fantastic, I mean that this is a project that being bored and locked up at home would be born to at least keep my mind occupied and always be in a good mood and then call some friends and tell them hey, let's make some music to have a good time, exchange files so we can mix and produce that to see what happens next. After producing many songs and recording two albums I can tell you that this is all crazy and that we are all very happy with everything that has happened with the band in recent weeks. CR: Many here in our region and in the rest of the world will look at At The Movies as an interesting discovery for the reason that the band has rescued several songs from the 80's and 90's that have been classics and that as it says the title is the soundtrack of our lives, what was previously forgotten now you have brought it back
CL: Thank you very much for your words, Johonny, I'm glad to know that you really liked this new album. That was a real challenge for us, if you are one of those who have lived the sound of the 80's, which for many was the most glorious due to the gigantic exposure of music to the world. In Europe for the 70's it was the time of the profile of the working man and that was routine but boring, then the 80's appeared and that was a change, the technologies and the access of entertainment to homes made it possible, for example to see movies like Beverly Hills Cops and things like that. The idea of all this is that people have fun, laugh, and have a good time, and all that happened until 94 with the arrival of Grunge and Alternative, although many did not like those new trends that appeared. We just arrived and decided to make a change in everything, for that reason people are grateful for what we have done. CR: Was it easy or difficult for the band to record the album while they were going through this lockdown situation back home?
CL: Well, when it comes to a band like At The Movies, it's not at all strange in these circumstances, since the project was born in the middle of the pandemic, and it's understandable what you say about people and that they know us so far that We have two albums released. Of course, I hate the fact that we're dealing with this whole problem without being able to go out and play and present our material to the public, but we're already seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The advantage of all this is that we have been able to entertain many people on our platforms and video channels with everything we have done, so those who meet us for the first time will have an idea of what we have in hand. Unlike being on tour 24/7 with this pandemic, being locked up at home and working on this project injects you with an adrenaline rush, and once we go out to do concerts that is what we will offer people: adrenaline, and That's where good things can happen. CR: We know that you are the producer of this project, already with what you experienced with Volume 1, what experiences did the production of Volume 2 leave you and the band with? CL: That's right, we all have several ideas to select and launch a song, the band decided that every Thursday we would launch a different one on our networks. In this way we quickly began to exchange files and ideas to get everything ready, such as the drum and bass tracks, then the other instruments, since it is a process that takes a long time and you must have it in a fixed term so that you can present it. that day. When we had everything ready, we made the mix on a Tuesday and it was a matter of hours to have it ready, hence the videos that the person in charge needed two days to make an excellent edition and present it to everyone every Thursday. The reactions have always been very good from those who follow us on the networks. CR: We know that in volume 1 you had the participation of Ronnie Atkins, Bruce Kulick and Jacob Hansen, on the one hand, what impressions do you have of these great musicians who appeared on the first album, and on the other hand if there are collaborations for this new ?
CL: The truth, Johnny, everything is born from a mutual collaboration without my having asked for them to appear in Volume 1, as everyone knows Ronnie has been fighting his cancer in recent years, and in his last surgeries they have removed a third of his lung. We talk every day and when he found out about the existence of the project he loved everything from the beginning and he told me that he loves At The Movies, to the point of asking me if he could sing with us, and he has always been very eager to collaborate. with the album and he says “Chris, what's the next song” (laughs), and I made him an offer of songs to know which one he would like his voice to appear on. The selected song was We Don't Need Another Hero (from the soundtrack of Mad Max- Beyond The Thunderdome) and he told me that was his song, and I told him that, if he was really capable of hitting high notes, and he was very eager to do that, and he went to Jabob Hansen's studio and recorded everything there, and when he sends everything back to me and I listen to everything I said this is fantastic and hits everything on just the right notes. When I asked Jacob to help him in his studio it's because we're friends, and I told Bruce Kulick that he's a good guitarist, to which he replied if he could do rhythm guitar on the project? And I let him participate, in the end he told me congratulations for a great project, and I replied that if you want to join us I can't pay you anything because we are all doing it for free (laughs) CR: I don't know if you or the band (based on your musical tastes from the 80's and 90's), for the nostalgic this is the best of the best! Was it easy or difficult to select these classics?
CL: I just love the 80's, and I recently turned 50, so for me the 80's is the time I love the most, and when it comes to doing a project that involves the music of that time I put my limits, at point of saying let's just do it let's have fun and I think that's what we all need right now and I don't have to care if you're in a band like Pretty Maids they just need to see what's been done with At The Movies who are talented musicians that they contribute their own, and that from that interesting chemistry comes a “Disney album” with 12 of the best Disney songs and now with two albums I'm looking for and want to do more because I have a lot of fun with music. CR: Waiting For A Star To Fall, I Want It That Way, Venus, (I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight, Heaven Is A Place On Earth, (You Drive) Me Crazy, Crush, are strong points of this new album , and that people expect to enjoy at their concerts.
What reactions have you had from the original songwriters of these songs that you have taken them to another level? CL: Thank you for your words regarding these arrangements that we have made, Johonny. We have our own rules. It's very easy for us to quick fix songs and make them more metal in that aspect, and for the band we look at this in a very simple way from several points, one of them being the same tempo, same tuning, same arrangements, and everything. We put that together here, in the absence of a saxophone what we have are guitars and the result is that a very good rock song comes out or we even take things from the sound of pop (laughs), and those are the rules with which we work in the band and that gives the listener a breath of fresh air that makes a good impression when listening to and enjoying these adaptations, and we like to listen to music and in my case pick up the guitar or play the keyboards to make the same approach to the original version, for that reason we have fun doing this and people will recognize at first impression of the song we are playing at that moment and despite the few changes we make in the structures it gives us the impression that far from polishing it is and arrangement we feel like we actually made a new song. CR: We know that you recently released a special boxset of the two discs in cassette format with a walkman included, and it's stuff that old school people want to hear again.
Is this edition standard or do you plan to make a special version with extra material? CL: No. Of the sessions there was a song that was incomplete, when we were in the final phase of the process before making the selection of the songs we just sat down, it didn't work and I panicked (laughs), there are things that greatly influenced that no more material was included in the new album, you are in the studio with the time measured between recordings and rehearsals per week, on the one hand it is easy when we are together and a little difficult from a distance and thus work on the rhythmic base and guitars. From that session we had ideas that a song would sound like Aerosmith or maybe the classic Def Leppard sound. The band wanted us to do that, but due to time and pressure issues, I just said no (laughs). CR: 7 talented musicians from world-renowned bands join their talents to rescue the magic and glory of the 80's and 90's
For those who will meet you for the first time in this interview, how did the idea of making a band like At The Movies come about? CL: It was my idea (laughs), I was sitting on my sofa and watching movies with my wife, and the first thing I saw was Music and Lyrics where Drew Barrymore performs and those pop arrangements left me very impressed, and my wife seeing That reaction told me “the studio is up there if you want to go” and I replied “yes, please” (laughs) and I commented on the idea to several friends, so that fascination of looking for the original versions on YouTube and giving them a touch would be born. fresher and more modern without losing its classic spirit, that's how the name At The Movies was born, and when I thought about what to call the project, the first thing that came to mind was the movie posters where the movies are shown, and among friends we would give life to this great band that would be born in the middle of a global pandemic. CR: As you previously commented Chris, projects like this are born out of mere hobby during this pandemic, some will think that At The Movies is a tribute band that will only be temporary. Are you looking to release more albums with the band in the future? CL: The idea is to continue, we all started this project and people have known how to support us by buying our albums and we have many surprises that we will be revealing later, and think of more ideas for the future, if that means releasing more albums here we will be ready for the challenge. CR: The pandemic generated a strong blow in these two years, despite the fact that there are vaccines, people are afraid of getting it again at a concert or on a tour, what is your point of view about people's fear of this?
CL: I think I seriously believe that six months from now we're going to have festivals and concerts again because what's happening right now is turning into a flu you know everybody's gonna get everybody's gonna get this but now not enough people are dying now it's a new format of this, you know, what I think is that it will take a little bit of time to get out of the United States and fly to Europe because they have another system, they have controls and they know all of that, so let's see, but even in May we could give signals to return to the stage. CR: If the pandemic or restrictions continued, what would be the next move for At The Movies? CL: Everything is undecided for now, although there could be a new album in the process, one thing is for sure, I can't say what era we could be inspired by for a new album, it could be classic Disney songs, or romantic comedies, or movies of action. Something could appear later. It's just a matter of guiding ideas and shaping something new. CR: At the end of this interview Chris, what message do you want to send to those who read this report, and thank you very much for the time you gave us at Conexión rock Radio, for me it was an honor to talk with you on this day
CL: First of all we thank the people who have believed in us and who have brought much joy to their homes in these hard times, the only thing I have to say is that we wish so much to be able to play again in various places and festivals, and make an At The Movies concert, a unique and incredible experience on various stages or somewhere in the world, and if you come here, Johonny, one thing is for sure, we will have a few beers and talk about good music, we hope that those paths of friendship and music intersect, and please to all the people around the world take care and we hope to see you very soon! Special thanks to Philipp Adelsberger for his help in making this interview possible, and to Chris Laney for spending time at home.
