MS: Estamos abiertos a cualquier cosa realmente. Conexion Rock Radio: Start this interview in know what impresions have the band about the reception that critics and fans given to the band's debut album called Dead Man's Diary.
How do you feel the band in make this first and important step? Maurice Scholz: Hi Johonny, the pleasure all mine. Receptions have been awesome so far. Reviewers as well as the private listener seem to have a very good time with our debut. Combined with the fact that we are already present on so many media platforms I can safely say that has been a great first step for us. CR: What comments have from the fans with the presentation of this album live?
Personal comment: the album will undoubtedly have a lot of reception on the radio, and especially at concerts, all songs can be played! MS: We haven't had any live gigs yet so I can't answer this question but I can say that we're working really hard to make sure that the people coming to our concerts have a great time. CR: We know that the band released the digital version in July 2019, and recently the physical version in January of this year. Are you currently looking for a label that supports or prefer to do everything independently? MS: We are happy with how things are right now. Being able to work independently is a kind of freedom we deeply appreciate. That being said we don't rule out the possibility that we'll be working with a label sometime in the future. CR: In your own words, how you could define this debut?
What topics does the band speak? MS: Well I didn't write the lyrics so I can't give any great detail about the mindset behind them but in my own words I'd say we have topics everyone can relate to. The songs tackle themes like guilt, revenge and such. Nothing crazy or so but it's the way Felix brings these topics to live that will keep you hooked. It's honest. CR: What experiences have you left to record in the studio, we know that all its members play in other projects besides Black Lilium, comments ... MS: For me it was my first professional recording. As for the others they already had tons of experience to look back to. I know that Jan played in serveral top 40 bands in the past. Felix currently is the vocalist of his pop project OH FYO and he and Marcel, together with Lasse were in a band called Killfloor Mechanic around 2013. My other band is called Surfyction. CR: Let's talk about the history of the band for those who listen you for first time.
We know that Black Lilium born in the city of Eutin in 2014, and have many changes in their lineup until the relase of Dead Man's Diary. How was the idea in making a Melodic Progressive Metal band like this, and why the name and influences? MS: We didn't have any particular minset about what genre we should do. I think it's the unusual lineup of musicians that played a big part. Me and Marcel are mordern metal guitarists. Jan on the other hand never played in a metal band before. First BL vocalist Sven Dose was also a big factor. He's an old school death metal fan and together with Marcel was the main songwriter. Felix is a pop singer. With our name we just wanted something that suited the music. It sounds dark but at the same time has this kind of elegancy. CR: With the relase of the band’s debut album, are you satisfied with the whole story that has been written so far? MS: Well there certainly were some ups and downs but I believe that's normal. All in all we can safely say that we're satisfied with how things worked out so far. CR: What is your point of view about the local rock and metal scene in Germany, has been easy or difficult for the band in get national or international recognition?
MS: It's really small here in our region but if people like you you can bet your ass that they'll show up and support you. As I said we didn't play any live gigs yet so I can't judge if people know us but given that we're already on so many platforms we'll definitely have a head start. CR: The band have in these years any experience in playing outside of your country. MS: Sadly no but we'd love to get to any place that we have fans from. I know how much it sucks to like a band that won't likely play anywhere close so we'll try to play at as much places as possible. CR: Currently platforms like Kickstarter of Crowfunding are a big help the bands in making special projects like videos, special releases (vinyls or box sets), production for albums and other ideas.
What do you think of this for the sonic universe of Black Lilium? It would be interesting a live work for your discography, comments ... MS: We are open for anything really. Crowdfunding is an amazing oportunity for bands that don't have the money. Luckily we are in a position where we don't need it for what we have planned. If we get enough requests for special editions and thinks like that we'll definiteley look into it. As of right now we're in preparations for a video shoot. CR: Currently have online shop for requests from other countries for some people who want to buy your music and other merch? MS: You can buy a physical copy of our CD on Amazon. Merch will follow soon. CR: The big question: There are some ideas for a new album? Or do you prefer to enjoy the moment with this album on several tours and festivals in and out of Germany? MS: There's already a lot of material for new stuff. We're workaholics. CR: What message do you want to send to those who read us on this day, and thanks for answering our questions at Conexion Rock Radio. MS: Thank you so much for spending your time reading about us. Wherever you are we hope you have a great time with our release and hopefully we play for you one day.
