CELTIC HILLS
¿Has participado anteriormente en festivales virtuales?

CELTIC HILLS
A Futuristic Journey To The Land Of The Gods Thrash, Power and Melodic Death Metal. It is the cocktail that we have in this report that Conexion Rock Radio offers to all who are looking for interesting proposals around the world, and if you are looking for something new to your ears, this band will undoubtedly attract your attention. Our stop this time is in Udine, Italy, and we talk there with Jonathan Vanderbilt, Voice and Guitar of the band Celtic Hills, who shares in this report everything related to the reception that fans and media have given to his new work, the second in his career called Mystai Keltoy, which was officially released last April via Elevate Records. Jonathan gives his point of view of how the pandemic has affected them in his country in terms of tours and local presentations, of the experience of recording a new album in atypical conditions, the concept they offer with Mystai Keltoy, and that together with Jacopo Novello - Bass, and Simone Cescutti- Drums seek to reach the farthest corners of the world with their sound, offering their new listeners A Futuristic Journey To The Land Of The Gods Conexión Rock Radio: Jonathan, greetings from Honduras greets you on this day, we extend our good wishes that you, your families and bandmates are well at home, and it is an honor to make this special report with our readers about the important news that a great band like Celtic Hills has in 2021, welcome! Jonathan Vanderbilt: Hello Johonny, thanks for the interest in knowing more about our band and greetings to your readers in Honduras and the rest of Latin America. CR: start my conversation with you to know how it has been for the band to face this strange situation there in Italy with the pandemic that has caused that there are no tours or concerts
JV: Opportunities must also be found in adversity, so in 2020 not being able to play live we recorded 2 albums and 1 EP in 12 months! CR: Let's throw away the bad news and talk about the good news, the band released in April of this year their 2nd album called Mystai Keltoy via Elevate Records.
What expectations do you have in releasing an excellent album in these strange circumstances? JV: We believe in the music we play and we hope that this album will be heard by many people around the world because there are few bands left to make fast and melodic metal with a typically rough raw sound. CR: What impressions have fans and critics had of this new album, especially in this emergency? Have they consumed more the physical or digital format?
JV: The reviews have all been excellent and with higher ratings than the previous album, I think this is also due to the fact that we were produced by Michele Guaitoli also known for being the lead singer of Vision of Atlantis. Nowadays, music is heard almost exclusively on digital platforms and youtube and spotify have shown that in a few weeks the ratings and comments have been numerous. After these good numbers we are also selling many copies of the physical format. Elevate Records has created a Bundle to receive the album at a special price along with the November 2020 EP, "Schrage Musik". CR: In this time of quarantine many will cheer this album from start to finish to the point of saying that most of the tracks will fit perfectly in a live set like The Light, The 7-Headed Dragon of Osoppo, Battle Of Frigidium or The Tomorrow of Our Sons are perfect examples that the band has a great bet on their hands.
By the way the cover is interesting where a Viking looks at a spaceship approaching the dock in the village, it seems that there is an adventure where warriors of the future face enemies of the past What is the concept behind Mystai? JV: There are theories that claim that humanity was created by aliens commonly known as the Annunaki. We used the theories of contemporary writers to tell the pyramids found in Europe and tell ancient legends and tales. You know the movie Stargate? some of these topics! CR: For this new album there are changes in the band's lineup. Simone "Zigo" Cescutti is the new drummer replacing Sandro Farfoglia. We want to know if Simone participated in the recording of Blood over Intents? What are your personal impressions of the contribution that Simone has made on this new album? JV: Simone participated in the whole album and you can see it in all the videos released to promote the songs. We found out that she has become the idol of girls! When there are only 3 players in a band, each one has to put in the best effort to have a robust sound and the drummer does half the job. CR: For this new album, did you produce it or did you have a producer to make this process successful? What experiences leave to the band recording this new album
JV: I wrote all the songs myself before entering the recording studio. while recording, the whole band and the producer work together to find the best solutions to make sure everything goes well. We chose to work with Michele Guaitoli because we like the sound of the bands he sings in: Temperance, Kaleidon, Era ... Recording an album is always a good experience, because you concretely realize ideas and emotions that fly into your mind without a route. Recording a disc means choosing the destination path CR: You´re currently a power trio. Do you think this 3 component formula has been successful for the band so far? JV: In the 70s and 80s it was the classical lineups to play rock, usually the bassist sang because singing and playing the guitar with solos is very demanding. From this 3 player lineup the metalheads added another guitarist and there was the 4 player lineup typical of thrash; Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth ...Maybe in the future we will add a guitarist CR: Currently the band works with Elevate Records
How do you feel about this label that support you edit all their material until today? JV: Elevate Records is a historic label in Italy! He has been working in the metal world for more than 30 years. I recommend visiting the site to see how many important names revolve around this business. In the videos of the bands that have signed with Elevate there are also the singers of Blind Guardian, Judas Priest and Rhapsody. CR: Let's talk about the history of Celtic Hills for the people who know about you for the first time in this interview, we know that they formed as a band in 2008 and released their demo Horns Helmet Fighters in 2010, but it would be in 2020 that released debut in style with Blood over Intents.
How were the origins of Celtic Hills and why the name and influences? JV: I live in an area inhabited 2000 years ago first by the Celts and then by the Romans, where the first and second world wars were fought. A hilly area that goes from the sea to the mountains in just 200km. Here the language is a mixture of German, Slovenian, Latin and also something of French left over from the occupation of Napoleon Bonaparte. When you live in a place with so many historical facts, the music is also inspired by this. The idea of creating a band where to combine my passion for metal and history was born 10 years ago, but only recently has it been possible to realize this dream. The name of the band derives from the English translation of a world famous region for the production of wine: the Collio. Musical influences come from my musical past ... he was a singer, guitarist, radio DJ, manager of other bands ... then you reach 50 and you decide to do something that leaves a sign on your existence CR: Also in that same year came to light the EP Schräge Music. Did you have a chance to present your material to the public before the pandemic? What impressions did people have of your proposal? JV: Due to the pandemic we haven't done a live yet and so we know how much they like the songs from the messages they write to us on the band's Facebook page. Schrage Musik is an EP recorded together with many guests. Friends of other bands and musicians who have already played in the Celtic Hills. There's an acoustic ballad I wrote for my dad's recent passing and it's a little off the classic Celtic Hills kind of song. Our fans appreciate that we play slightly different songs from time to time CR: Jonathan, as you know, many musicians have their jobs and others live entirely from music.
Seeing this situation, what the bands are going through with this pandemic, have you contemplated any strategy to stay afloat monetarily? JV: If money doesn't bring happiness, imagine what misery does! We all want to be rock stars and just make music! We work to support the family and also a second job to support the music. I try to invest everything I can invest in music, because in life the important thing is the beautiful relationships between people, friends, smiling and helping others to realize their dreams. dreaming and making your dreams come true: this is life. CR: What is your point of view on this trend of bands with streams? Have you previously participated in virtual festivals? Is Celtic for or against this? JV: Live concerts are a necessity for bands and the public. do you prefer to have sex in a bed or on youporn? CR: Once this situation normalizes, do you have any pending tours to reschedule or is the panorama is uncertain for live shows for now?
JV: We already have confirmed dates for 2022 at international festivals and we are working to prepare the tours; Playing in Europe is quite feasible, a little more difficult to organize concerts in the Americas having to submit to anti-Covid permits CR: Jonathan, what message do you want to send to those who have read this interview, and I want to thank you for the time you gave us at Conexion Rock Radio, it has been an honor to be able to speak with you this day. JV: If any friends would like to create a Facebook fan page in Honduras, we will be happy to send exclusive material to this fan club to let us know and keep in touch like real friends do. CR: Jonathan, thank you for your time, in same way to Markus Eck from Metalmessage for making this communication possible there at home. Again the best hits with this tremendous album and the best for all of you there in Italy! JV: A hug from Italy Johonny, likewise to your readers, we'll see you soon, and take care of yourselves at home! Special thanks to Markus Eck of Metalmessage for his help in making this interview possible, and to Jonathan Vanderbilt for the time allotted on this report.
