¡Contactame!
DAEMON GRAY

This time we establish contact with Ontario, Canada, where Daemon Gray welcomes us into his home and we talk about the interesting details that he and his band share for their fans around the world of their debut album called Follow Your Nightmares, which saw the light on January 22 via Out Of Line Music, and that has generated the attention and expectation of locals and strangers towards his proposal, thus generating a growing fan base in various continents around the globe. The current line-up, in addition to Gray on vocals, is complemented by Greg Shier- Guitars, Ryan Miller- Bass, and Joey Muha- Drums, which has generated a great result with the recording process of this album. Then we invite you to enjoy this interesting band that invites us to play at full volume A Perfect Soundtrack For A Nightmare Conexión Rock Radio: Daemon, greetings from Honduras, Central America, I send my best wishes to you and your bandmates who are doing well there, and it is an honor to speak with you and make a special report for our readers on the story on this day. and the next news that your band has for its fans and the new ones who will join now on the road in this 2021, welcome! Daemon Gray: Thanks for the best wishes! I send you from here the same wishes for all of you in Latin America and the rest of the world. CR: I start my report with you sharing good news, the band has released on January 22 through Out Of Line Music their album debut called Follow your Nightmatres.
How do you feel about releasing this great album in these strange circumstances, and your expectations with this first step in the history of the band? DG: Well, there has been an incredible amount of work, blood, sweat, tears, and literally everything else you can imagine, that has gone behind the scenes to bring this music to the world. Since I see musical creation and expression as the fundamental reason I am alive, of course I am absolutely excited about the release. I've learned so much not just about writing music, but about myself, how the music industry works, who I should or shouldn't trust, and everything in between! It definitely feels like the official beginning of my journey as an artist and it's really exciting. As for my expectations, I can honestly say that I don't have any. With all the incredible ups and downs I've had to put together this record, I realized that having specific expectations is a very emotionally and psychologically vulnerable place. Rather than keeping up with expectations, I've strictly switched to a gratitude mindset where everything that happens beyond this point is really the icing on the cake. My way of thinking is that I am fortunate to have the opportunity to create music and I am fortunate to have incredible support from a growing label, friends, and fan base. At the end of the day, making music has never been about my personal ego or any specific outcome. I am simply a fan of music and creativity is what I need to feel happy and fulfilled. I just try to put my truth and my heart in all aspects of life and never pay too much attention to the judgment of others. That said, I really hope people like the album and resonate with it! So here we are ... Let's see how the trip goes !! CR: We know that the album was produced by Gavin Brown, Mike Riley, and Kevin Thrasher, known for their work with artists like Marliyn Manson, Three Days Grace, and Escape the Fate.
What impressions does the band have working with them in the studio for this incredible album? DG: I write all the music for Daemon Gray. Interestingly, I don't actually play any instruments. I cannot read music nor do I understand music theory. I write music strictly from a place of emotion and energy. I am confident in my ability to feel the energy of music to put together melodies, choruses, lyrics and everything else. I don't hear musical notes or specific sounds in a song, I feel what resonates energetically. For most of my life in bands and trying to make music, I never got any respect for my ability to write songs because I don't play instruments or understand music theory. However, I can't stop that easily;) Gavin Brown, who is the first senior producer who really looked at my ideas and the way I created music and instantly knew this was something that needed to move forward? Gavin also has a unique and energetic style for writing music and we were able to connect on a deep level early on. We are both emotional beings and we have incredible times making music.
I really learned a lot from Gavin in terms of the power of simplicity in music and listening to all the elements of a song in unison rather than obsessing over individual components. Working with Mike Riley fit so well it was ridiculous.
He brought a lot of knowledge of modern music with a deep understanding of the passion that drives heavy music. Really a badass guy and we were on the same page from the start. He also brought concepts to the table that he would never have thought of because of his crazy experience with guys like Marilyn Manson and a lot of modern popular music. Honestly, he and I had a great time making songs together and it was fun and so easy. We'd put songs together and rock out and we could walk out of the studio without feeling like we just fought a war. We've done a few more things together since I'll talk later;) Kevin Thrasher is a really dumb guy and by far one of the most competent guitar players out there today. Working with Kevin is like working with a really talented tattoo artist.
You don't go to a tattoo artist with a detailed final concept and hope it matches exactly what you want. You go with the concepts and some open skin, and you move forward with a mutual vision and mutual trust. You give a tattoo artist room to create the fucking magic they can create. Working with Thrasher was honestly a lot the same, except the tattoo needle is the guitar and the bare skin is a song that needs some fucking riffs. CR: I must tell you that the album is shaping up to be one of the most interesting debuts of this year, here are many songs that will be anthems for live shows like XXX, Whiskey Devil Girl, Sworn To Black in addition to the singles that the band has made Recently. released.
What reactions have people had when listening to your songs on digital platforms? DG: Well, it's a very humbling thing to hear and I definitely hope you're right. Honestly, the biggest pride I take in making music is when people who traditionally don't like heavy music like Daemon Gray. And it happens all the damn time (=. People always want to make it clear to me that "they don't like heavy music, but they like my music." For me, that means they are connecting with the music of the soul. level that is overcoming your mental identity judgment on the kind of music you can normally resonate with. Not long ago, I was driving in my car with a couple of girls and I thought, do you want to listen to my music? They asked me what genre and I said metal and they were like no, thank you. I put it on anyway (duh) and 10 minutes later a girl was standing in the car seat as she tried to yell profanity at the night sky from the sunroof, haha, it was like okay ... get down from there before we stop, but also as this is good ... this is good ... Since my favorite genre of music is death metal, I find that my music resonates well with music fans as well as that super heavy shit. I'm not like a pop guy who tries to make heavy music, I'm a staunch fan of metal and death metal who does heavy rock songs. I just try to make music that I like, first and foremost. I don't think about what other people will like or dislike because that is always a distraction to creating music from the soul. CR: For those of you who are getting to know your music for the first time, we would like to know the concept behind Nightmares, are there stories around the tracks or is the whole album a concept work?
In general, I believe that my purpose in life is to generate energy that helps other people overcome their own fears and embrace their own truth. As a kid, heavy music allowed me to escape the unhealthy pattern of giving a shit what other people think. As the other kids ran around the playground teasing each other and jumping from one trend to another, I had Pantera, Hatebreed and At The Gates blasting in my headphones damaging my hearing (I can laugh at that now, but in that moment is not very funny). Fear is the absence of love, just as love is the absence of fear. As intuitive beings, our hearts often guide us towards the things we fear in order to gain wisdom and develop our soul's mission on earth. Our mental identity is often afraid to chase our fears, but our heart knows that immersing in fear is the right way to go. And so Follow Your Nightmares means, of course, deliberately facing your fear to unleash your true strength. Fear is a bloody disease and I will fight it to the end. I've said it before, but I'll say it again ... Fuck dreams. Dreams make you feel warm and fuzzy, but they have little power. Dreams are too safe. To unleash our true potential, we dive headlong into what scares us the most, transcending the darkness and finding our deepest selves. Fear is a great teacher when we know how to use it ... and what greater fear is there than our most twisted nightmares that lurk in our deepest subconscious? Literally or metaphorically, when it comes to nightmares, I say, follow them. It is the title of my album, but also the motto of my life. CR: For those who know you for the first time in this report, how the idea of forming the band was born, many will think that by your name it could be as a "soloist", and how you met Greg, Ryan and Joey to join this adventure ?
DG: Daemon Gray is a solo project when it comes to making music, but also the name of the band itself for shows and tours. My vision for forming a band was really just making powerful music that would hopefully attract the best musicians. It was absolutely fantastic that this vision came true, now playing with guys like Joey and Ryan who have literally toured the world in death and thrash metal bands. While we have a solid foundation, I am always looking for more musicians who are interested in the project and want to play with Daemon Gray. I'm definitely always looking to chat with musicians who like music and want to collaborate on the new Daemon Gray or whatever. I'm specifically looking for another guitarist for Daemon Gray, so definitely give me a hit if it's you! Also, I'm trying to locate a trap producer with heavy music knowledge for a mixed trap metal project that I've been thinking about for a couple of years. The concept is definitely ready to go, you just need to find the right guy or girl. Hit me! CR: Currently the band is part of the Out of Line Music artist catalog, what impressions do you have on working with them?
DG: I'm not going to continue for an hour on Out Of Line (could!). Suffice to say, I think they are a rare group of people in the music industry. My impression is that they are a group of people with good vibes, professionals, creative and supportive who always put music first. They are personable (but not overly personable) and take their craft seriously. It's crazy that I ended up being a group of people from the other side of the earth who are bringing my music to the world! CR: With this global emergency caused by COVID-19, many concerts and festivals were canceled, as well as delays in releases.
Being you the voice and part of the band, are you aware that this emergency could affect them financially? DG: Well, I take care of all of Daemon Gray's money and personally I haven't made any money from music (but I have spent A LOT). I am investing in music because I love it. There are more experienced bands that could answer that question much better than I can ... we're just getting started so we'll have to see how it all unfolds! CR: Daemon, what message do you want to send to those who read us in this special interview?
I also want to thank you for the time you have taken to answer our questions on Rock Radio Connection. DG: I just want of course to extend my sincere thanks to everyone for listening and spreading the word! I put my soul in music and hope you can feel it. In closing, I would just like to say ... have sex with this album !!!!!! CR: Daemon, thanks for your time! Best of luck to you and your bandmates with this debut album, our online radio is with the doors open to support the band, as well as our Friends of Looters for making this talk possible with you, and we look forward to speaking! again with you later! Thanks Johonny !! Be strong and follow your heart brother! Special thanks to Sarah Lutz and Natasha Gorey at Looters for their help in making this interview possible, and to Daemon Gray for the opportunity granted to our readers in Latin America and the rest of the world.
