Ladies and Gentlemen, from Richmond, United States we present to you ENFORCED A Crossover and Thrash Metal band that are back in action with their second album called Kill Grid, which saw the light in March, and marks the beginning of an interesting working relationship with the Century Media Records label, where they will seek to overcome expectations with the fans who have followed them since their early days as new ones who join along the way. This time our conversation was with Will Wagstaff- Guitars and Knox Colby- Vocals, who provide impressions about the general reception that fans and critics have given to their new album, and in the same way the experience lived during both the process of recording as of the confinement during the global pandemic caused by Covid 19. Enforced was formed in 2016, and in 2019 they release their debut album called At The Walls, that is where the national and international recognition for the band would begin, and at the same time the beginning of an interesting story they share with Ethan Gensurowsky- Bass, Alex Bishop - Drums, and Zach Monahan- Guitars. Next, we share with you all the history and future plans that this Thrash Metal band proclaims a Brutality That Never Go Out of Fashion Conexión Rock Radio: Will, Knox, Greetings from Honduras for you both on this day! We send you our good wishes that everyone is well there at home, and it is an honor to be able to make for our readers this special report dedicated to the current situation that Enforced has in 2021, welcome! Will Wagstaff: Hello Johonny, thank you for coming to us today, our good wishes to you also back home. Knox Colby: We are happy to be able to talk with you and share what we have with our new album that is already on the streets, thanks again for the interest! CR: We want to know how it has been for you to deal with this emergency that has left us all without concerts, festivals and tours.
WW: As you say we have all been dealing with it all this time, and people have been able to respond quickly to the situation with their care at home and wearing their masks when going out. It only remains for everyone to be safe and for everything to return to normal. KC: I agree with Will, and we have all tried to take care of this problem and survive as best we can. CR: Let's throw the bad stuff away and talk about the good news that Enforced currently has for its fans around the world.
The band released on March 12 their second album called Kill Grid through Century Media Records. How do you feel about publishing this work under these strange circumstances? WW: The truth is that we are all happy to have released this album and that people responded very well to the new material. Previously our first work was a series of compilations and demos, already with this new work the fans will enjoy from beginning to end what we have prepared, for our part we are satisfied with the good reactions so far. CR: It has been 2 years since the release of At the Walls and that for many who will meet and hear the band for the first time it will be an interesting discovery, I must tell you the first album is powerful, raw, crunchy and primitive, in this new the formula is more polished with a dynamic and complex approach to his songs.
How has it been for you to see the evolution you have had from that first album to this new one? KC: I would consider this work as a furious work, which compared to the previous one was a bit slow, but with a lot of consistency in its sound. In the evolution part we have all contributed many ideas both in terms of structures and lyrics, and at the end of the whole process we consider that we have delivered a better product and that we as a band have taken a great leap in this part of the story. CR: Will, what reactions have you had from the people who weeks ago enjoyed the previews and who now have the album in their hands, all this indicates that the band has implemented a new formula for them to exceed expectations with Kill Grid
WW: The formula would be from my point of view that we all gave our best to achieve a great album like this, both in terms of music and composition. It is also worth mentioning that the changes of members that we have had in recent years have marked a good influence so that we all take a big step in this progression, and we hope that this lineup can last as long as possible to launch good works such as this. CR: This album is guaranteed to be enjoyed at your own risk in a moshpit. Tracks like Beneath Me, Malignance, Hemorrhage, Blood Ribbon and Trespasser already have the merit of being classics What is the concept that the band offers on this new album? WW: Thank you for your comment, actually all this about the current circumstance in which we live, we have given the album a political approach, and at the same time an awareness of the problems that have occurred in recent years with climate change. We have tried to focus on Thrash / Death Metal, and with that drive we hope to maintain that direction from now on. KC: Thank you also for your words, we are glad that you liked the album. This work talks about how modern life has impacted on society around the world to the point that we consider ourselves expendable in these times to the point of questioning whether thanks to this we are useful or useless. For us, we see this type of situation as disgusting, and in terms of musicality it offers the fans many things to digest in the songs, to the point that many people can identify in what we speak, and that makes us happy that people have received Kill Grid with open arms. CR: What can you tell us about the experience of working with Bob Quirk, Ricky Olson and Arthur Rizkin in the recording studio?
KC: Working with them has been a good experience taking things to another level for us. In Bob's case, he is a person who has worked with a large number of bands, including Hardcore. With Rick he has made an excellent contribution in the studio, especially with the sound treatment on the drums, in the same way Arthur who gave an excellent final product in the mix and in the mastering, with this team we have been satisfied. CR: Incidentally, the amazing job Joe Petagno has done for the cover of Grid.
How was the contact between the band and Joe? WW: It was really easy, actually, we approached him just to see if he had a free schedule to be able to work with us. He was very receptive in assisting us and we had a very good impression of him, since he is very receptive and we have maintained good communication based on the ideas for the cover, so we told him about the concept. Joe knew how to encapsulate all the feeling and mentality of the album. And once he finished it and showed it to the band we didn't doubt from the first moment that that would be the cover art for Kill Grid, he definitely did an excellent job with his art. CR: With Kill Grid the band debuts with the label Century Media How does Enforced feel about being part of the most important record companies worldwide? KC: With the label we are honored to be part of your catalog of artists. The push and support that Century Media has been of great benefit to both parties, its work team has tried to maintain all the details for an excellent promotion, and that has resulted in a relationship of mutual support, and that is reflected in the promotion and release of the album on CD, Digital and Vinyl. CR: If this situation continues, do you have any strategies to stay afloat financially?
WW: That is a good question. I think we are going to have to employ some new strategies, we have really prepared several ideas. Despite the current bad situation, people have been able to respond positively with the campaigns, especially in pre-orders, and we do not rule out preparing more things soon. CR: This pandemic has caused severe changes in the entertainment industry around the world, now the trend is to do everything online. Are you for or against virtual concerts, or do you prefer to wait to do face-to-face concerts? KC: I would rather see the bands live, as on a stage between the artists and the people present is where most of my energy comes from, but I am not totally opposed to them doing a live broadcast or making a recorded video for be issued later. CR: We have been in confinements for more than a year, people were crying out for music and new proposals. Enforced with this new album has been the answer to this clamor that in the long run represents a breath of fresh air. What reactions have you seen from people who have enjoyed the album at home? WW: Thank you very much for the compliment. The truth is that all the bands, no matter what genre they play in, have contributed positive things in the midst of this pandemic, and all this for the fans represents a joy to make this confinement as tolerable as possible, and when the time of the tours arrive, many people will be hungry to enjoy the concerts in their cities relive the experiences traveling to other countries. CR: Once this emergency is over, do you have plans to go on tours this year, or is the outlook for now uncertain in Enforced camp?
KC: I think it is quite uncertain and there are many things in the air at this point and for everyone without tours and without concerts it is a regrettable problem. We have talked about some things that are on the table, what remains is to be aware of what happens in the panorama, but of one thing is certain, we are seeing all this with great optimism. CR: Will, Knox, what message do you want to send to those who read us in this special interview? And thanks to both of you for taking the time to do this special report for Conexion Rock Radio. WW: I just want to thank you Johonny for your interest in doing the interview and we thank the fans for supporting us in these difficult times, our music is yours and we hope to see you very soon at a concert, take care of yourselves and stay healthy and strong in home. KC: I wouldn't add much more, I just want to say, thank you for listening and being a part of this with us, thank you for your time, and to you Johonny, thank you for the good conversation in this report. CR: Friends !, thank you for the time allotted on this day! Best of luck to all of you with this great album! Likewise to our friends at Looters for making this talk possible, and we are looking forward to speaking with you again in the future and following up on the interesting story that you as a band are beginning to make with Kill Grid.
