OSYRON

OSYRON
Sadness and Extinction... Beyond Dominion Day If you like progressive metal with European elements, we invite you to give yourself the opportunity to listen to the following proposal that we present for all of you in our international interviews that Conexión Rock Radio offers periodically to an entire community around the world that wants to listen something new, fresh and interesting. From Alberta, Canada come OSYRON, a band that was born in 2012, but that has a history that dates back to 2004 when they were previously known as Morbid Theory, and that are currently presenting their new album called Momentous, which was released on last November 4, and that for his fans consider this new release as one of the best in his career. Our guest, Reed Alton, vocalist of the band, shares with all of you the experience that the band lived during the pandemic, the composition process, and the interesting guests that appear on this new album, without leaving out their ambitious plans for expand your sound as far as possible. Osyron, in addition to Alton on Vocals, is complemented in the lineup by Tyler Corbett- Bass, Cody Anstey- Drums, Krzysztof Stalmach- Guitars, and Bobby Harley- Vocals and Guitars. Learn about their history and discography, and witness the perfect soundtrack of how the world lived through sadness and extinction... to rise beyond dominance. Conexion Rock Radio: Good afternoon from Honduras Reed, thank you for accepting this conversation where we will share with our readers in Latin America and the rest of the world what Osyron has in 2022, welcome! Reed Alton: Thank you for the invitation and for your interest in talking with me Johonny, and greetings to your readers who follow and support your work in promoting many bands around the world, and especially ours in your spaces, here for a long time. It's cold and we hope to go on tour soon to places with better weather (laughs). CR: On the contrary, an honor to be able to echo the work that you do, I start my conversation with you knowing how it has been for the band to appear again at festivals and play in various places there in Alberta after these two and a half years later of this forced break in 2020
RA: Since the album was released we've done a number of shows in west glen, so we played our hometown in Calgary, went north to Edmonton and got to play in Vancouver and then we'll do a couple more shows. Soon we will be playing in Alberta and British Columbia and then Manitoba. We will have several dates announced for the rest of the year, and then we will be looking to book in the United States, possibly for spring 2023, with a little luck and a lot of work we seek to play as far as possible with this new album. In relation to the pandemic it has been a problem that everyone has had to face in all these months, and for the band it was a measure to keep us safe and that nobody got sick, but on the other hand now that the restrictions have been easing and the places have returned to operate again for the artists to play, it is a very positive point, since both the bands and the public want to enjoy a good time, and we take advantage of this time to compose and do new things, in this way we can share them live with the people. It has been a long road that the world has faced with this emergency, we had different experiences, and it is a joy to be back to be able to write this new chapter now and the next ones that will come later. CR: And speaking of good chapters, we have this one that is the protagonist of this report, recently the band released Momentous, the third album in their discography and that was released on November 4, and this new work that will inject a breath of fresh air in its sound.
Do you have any expectations or do you wait for the reactions when people all over the world listen to it in physical or digital format? RA: When you release something you look to see what expectations not only the fans who are close to you, but from all over the world have, and we are lucky enough to work with people who have supported the band in the last year, and who They have known how to correctly spread our music as far as possible. We have had the opportunity to have comments from several countries in Latin America, the United States and Europe. Personally, people have enjoyed our music both on CD and digitally, and for that reason we seek to transmit that to the whole world, we hope to be able to release this on vinyl later, although for now we are focusing on promoting the album and presenting ourselves on several places, and we are happy that people have liked the new album and that we have several reactions in our social networks, so we only hope that you will join us in our next dates in various cities and towns here in Canada. CR: With this new album the band breaks a silence of five years since the release of Kingsbane in 2017. How do you feel about coming back with an album after a long time even though you released the Foundations EP in 2020?
RA: We were very lucky because when we launched Foundations there was no Covid, but after the pandemic appeared and hit the world we released these songs in the middle of that madness and we decided to do this so as not to lose that material. So our managers and promotional company proposed to us that we re-release Kingsbane remastered and remixed with bonus songs, and that strategy allowed us to keep busy and release more stuff, that way the way was clear for Momentous to come out physically and digitally at the same time. world, since we manifest as musicians to improve our compositional aspect, and it was very interesting between two full-length without leaving out reissued Kingsbane and launching this EP as an intermission and by releasing this new album we can say that things have gone well so far, and we can be calm in having new things for the people. CR: During all these months of confinement, have you felt affected by not being able to go out to do concerts or did this help you come up with new ideas and offer something new to the fans?
From your point of view, how has the pandemic influenced the writing process of the new album? RA: You know, I think isolation and lockdown affected everyone differently. You know, I don't know how it affected you or everyone very differently and I can only tell you from my perspective, I had to deal with a lot of personal struggles mentally speaking, depression and trying to overcome some obstacles, but I think they also generated a lot of inspiration for writing for the record, so I look back now and obviously there have been a lot of difficulties, there were a lot of difficult moments and things moved forward with the passage of time, and in the end we released something that reflects a lot of passion and pain, and we have managed to express very well what what we wanted on this record, and that's what the people here want to hear, which is the emotion and how we felt in those days. CR: The name of the album reflects the great moment that the band is experiencing this year by doing a great job, and secondly that this could be the point of musical maturity that Osyron has in its history.
What do you offer us here, are there stories between the songs or do we have something conceptual? RA: The album itself is a conceptual work where all the songs come together in a single line to follow up on a single story, there we expose how people have had to overcome problems in these two and a half years of sunstroke, and by making this album we imply that we have overcome many things, the lyrics speak of personal stories with an introspective point of view, and it has nothing to do with themes related to Canadian history. There is an example on this new album, the first song is called Anunnaki, which talks about ancient religions about how the individual searches for the meaning of life being compared to a grain of sand in the gigantic universe in which we live. And that makes us think and reflect on how people can be transcendent in this life. CR: Production is a notable point for this album. We know that Cody the bassist, Tyler the drummer, and Josh Rob all worked through this process. Was it easy, difficult or did you have more ideas when you entered the studio? RA: That's right. First of all because the band does a lot of things internally as you mentioned and it was Tyler the bassist, and Cody the drummer who took the initiative to prepare everything so that the album was ready and on time, but in the end the band had total creative control, so that we were able to make the decisions, and we wanted to make sure that we can take our time, without being pressured by time limits or whatever, and you know we were lucky to do it that way, so when we went to record this record we had the ideas, the concepts and we were looking to bring those songs to life and if we hear something in our heads and we can make sure that we could translate that into a record. I think that's what we got, and it's great that we have guys in our band who can do all of that because it allows you total creative control. CR: What are your impressions of the collaborations with Stu Block and Percival Schuttenbach as special guests?
RA: For us, both Percival and Stu are great vocalists, very professional people in what they do as well as being talented, and working with them as guests made the production have a higher standard of quality in their executions, by giving the guidelines in which songs were going to participate, we gave them the creative freedom to put their interpretations in their own way and combine everything with the music. Anunnaki was one of those examples of how the song would take center stage by its own weight, and in addition to the fact that we are all friends we also live in the same country, and having the presence of both helped me to be a better vocalist and to be able to to be a better professional in my area. Many people will appreciate that things are now on another level, and later we will be preparing a video where I will share space with both, and it was a great experience, and an absolute honor that Percival and Stu were our guests. CR: With this album it would be the second release with the SAOL label, since you would debut with the EP Foundtations a couple of years ago.
What impressions do you have of a label that is supporting you in this part of your story? RA: We have worked years ago with your press staff and your managers who help us promote our material, they give us creative control over what we do in the studio, and they don't pressure us to deliver a product that can meet the expectations of the audience. people. It has been very important to be able to make a working link between the band and the record label to find the best results when offering a new product, and at the same time they do a wonderful job with agencies, stores where they distribute our material and journalists like you when we do our rounds of interviews. It is a benefit that people like you and with whom we work in our environment make everything easier. CR: It's satisfying that two characters like them appear on this album, which will be one of the most acclaimed releases and one of the best that the band has released in their discography.
10 years of activity, we know that the band is linked to the beginnings of another like Morbid Theory, and they released their debut Harbinger and that they would change their name some time later. After several tours and many people around the world who enjoy your proposal, how do you feel to witness good things, tours and records that are important testimonials in the history of the band? RA: It is very interesting to see and be part of this evolution that is part of our lives. When you mentioned Harbinger it is an album that has a history, precisely 10 years ago and the band in those days was different, they were called Morbid Theory, and they lived in Ontario, with the name change the music would be the same, and we moved to the next west, precisely in Alberta and that's where the change to Osyron came from. From there there were many changes in the lineup of the band to be as stable as possible. Bobby the guitarist actually sang the vocals on that album, and after I joined as a vocalist things had a significant change in the sound of the band, and people will notice that on all the albums we've done and the most important thing here is For us to stick together as a team and to experience new directions in music making as it has been with Momentous is a clear sign that we are becoming more cohesive and that is the result of a job well done. CR: Now that the album is available in physical stores and digital platforms, what's next for Osyron? Do you have tour plans in the coming weeks with this album that is an undisputed winner in your discography?
RA: First of all, thanks for your comment, with this album it is the first time that we feel that it is a work that will be heard by many around the world. For now we are going to focus on working on promoting the album, making more dates for concerts and if possible making a video later. Many tell us that it is our best effort so far, we should check that for when the time comes for the next album, to be able to play in several cities in Canada, go out to perform in the United States, Latin America, and Europe where we will possibly have many people who will continue in those countries and continents. We will go to play anywhere where we have the opportunity to perform, that would imply cold places like Alaska, Iceland or even Antarctica where it is very cold (laughs). CR: At the end of this interview Reed, what message do you want to send to the people who have enjoyed this interview, and thank you for the time granted on this day.
RA: Thanks for the interview Johonny, it's been an interesting conversation with you, and my message to people is to enjoy our music, as we will never stop pushing ourselves and trying to create the best we can as artists, and wherever you are. and you know the band or that you know about us for the first time we thank you, in the same way to the people who allow us to play in various places, countries and cities. We will be there when the opportunity to play near you is given, and we hope you will always support us, and even more so now that we have a new album for all of you. Special thanks to Natasha Gorey for her help in making this interview possible, to Reed Alton for his time spent on this report.
