PrincesS
Pepper's Lonely Hearts Blub Band de The Beatles.
My New Baby) y tu álbum en solitario Utopia – Distopia, para luego formar PrincesS.

PrincesS
The Royalty Advises Us All We Need Is Rock and Roll A play on words of what we will share in this special report that Conexion Rock Radio has for all of you this time, and taking advantage of the worldwide emergency by Covid 19 that has put us in confinement in our homes, we bring you a band that mixes elegance worthy of a member of a hierarchy with the magic of rock embodied in one name: PrincesS. On our trip around the world we came to Italy, where we talked with Freddie Wolf, the voice and mastermind behind this interesting band that has an interesting story to share with new fans in our region, and that promises many surprises in the not-too-distant future. far. PrincesS is currently conformed by Freddie Wolf- Vowels, Orlando Monteforte- Bass, Max "Warner" Brodolini- Guitars, Mauro Manzoni- Keyboard and Piano, and Alfonso Corace- Drums. (session musician) In their history they have released two record works: their self-titled debut in 2018, and recently Lovely Heaven Crazy Band in 2019. Next, we share with you this interesting band: Conexion Rock Radio: Freddie, greetings from Honduras, Central America. I hope you are well at home with this global emergency with your family and bandmates, as this has literally paralyzed the world, and it is an honor to have you here in this special report for our audience on various continents who want to know about history and the next news that PrincesS has for his fans and the new ones that will join now, welcome! Freddie Wolf: Hola a todos! We're just happy and proud to be your guest, mate - everything's fine here and I hope the same for you all as well... CR: Start this interview to know what have been the impressions that fans and critics have given to the new album of the band called Lovely Heaven Crazy Band, and which was released in 2019 via Swan Edition.
How do you feel about writing a new chapter in your career with PrincesS? FW: This second album was an amazing experience but we were even worried about it cause we tried to include more genres and explore some kind of music we love but we never faced before. More than this, usually we're considerate a hard rock/70s prog band so, trying to expand our music is ever a risk. But we didn't receive any bad reviews and disapproval about it till now so we hope for the better. In fact, if you never risk, you never go over your limits and your music risks to sound so "industrialized". I don't mean that you have to do it with all musical projects, but for sure in this one where the influences are really so many (jazz, blues, prog, rock, pop, black music, heavy, funk...) CR: Interestingly the album name: Lovely Heaven Crazy Band has clear references to two important albums of two great bands: Made In Heaven by Queen, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, your stage name winks at the great Freddie Mercury, on the other hand with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. How was the idea of joining two universes in PrincesS music? FW: You really strike the target mate (except about my name cause it’s my real one). In fact, the idea was to pay homage to all the greatest artists of the XX century, representing many of them on the cover and trying at the same time to do it making a cover that could remind one of the most iconic ones - Sgt. Pepper for sure, also including on it much more symbolic things (the Pink Floyd glass prism as "God", the AC/DC cannon on the pyramid, the flying Zeppelin...) to try to "summarize" the history of music in one painting. We had obvious problems with the copyright, that's why I already prepared an "empty" version with just the band in the same background with not artists all around us for the web stores and digital platforms. CR: This new album is conceptual or we have different stories? FW: We have not concept albums right now even if the idea is inspiring us for a long time... who knows; probably something like that could arrive on our discography in the future. CR: In 2018 you made themselves known with their debut, which by the way had nothing to do with the new album in which they used many elements from the rock of the 70s, and especially the progressive.
For prog lovers, this would be an excellent recommendation for this work, which reminds us of a lot of Emerson Lake and Palmer. Tracks like Theatrical Opera, Freed Prisoner (I liked that vocal range a la Mercury) God Save The Goblin, or Space will make the eyes of many turns to you, but one of the interesting points is El Dia Antes Del Mañana. What motivated you in making a song in Spanish? Personal comment: I have the feeling that with this track the band was looking for the intention of making itself known to the Latin American public. FW: Not only mate; in fact - over our attempt to include the Latin people to be interested in our music - there's even the idea to produce another version of "The Day Before Tomorrow" (the original song) that was included in my solo album in 2015 ("Utopia-Distopia") before to know we can finally restart our beloved project. At that point, I just think that could be nice to sing it Spanish version (even cause I'm half Latin American) instead to produce it again as it was. That song is probably the most representative for us for many reasons... we bring it around from 1998; it becomes some kind of our "Child in Time" - just to say that we cannot imagine this band with not that tune in it! CR: With Lovely Heaven Crazy Band many will say that this album will mark an interesting musical direction in their career.
What influenced you to make a change from progressive rock to hard rock? FW: It was not something we really project so much about - what I mean is that our main influences are usually about artists who changed a lot (Queen, Goblin, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa...) so the attitude to explore is part of our genetic, I think. Usually, it just happens inside us naturally and not programmed. CR: Those who listen to the band for the first time will consider it an interesting discovery musically speaking, and at the same time that new fans are born in unsuspected places, what is your point of view of how the music of the band has managed to go far?
FW: Internet is for sure an amazing way to send your music all around easily... when we started this project we were just kids with no contacts or important people by our side (it was the 90s), knocking at many doors to have our chance like everyone, ripping our stuff on MCs or CDs for the labels, with the hope to involved someone and to finally get the chance everyone needs to go over its own limit. Now everything is more chaotic but it gives you more possibilities at the same time if you know how to move for the better. At the time of MySpace, I literally found thousands of fans of mine everywhere in the world and even fan-clubs I either know they exist… a wonderful time for artists in the social history. CR: Let's talk about the origins of the band, certainly very interesting. We know that you previously participated in bands like Stick it Out, New Babylon (where you appear on the demo and the E.P. My New Baby) and your solo album Utopia - Distopia to later form PrincesS. How did you get the idea of forming an interesting band like this and why the name? FW: In fact, PrincesS is not the last project but the first for us all! We started in the far 1994 (incredible but true - we were just kids with no experiences of any kind), but just in 1998, the line-up was finally completed, starting the band concretely. Unfortunately in 2003, after different gigs, demos and a lot of sacrifices to concretize our "dreamy" band, I had to stop them cause the differences among us were more than the possible compromises. Just after the bands you named (where I reached many targets and satisfactions, and the double solo album), I finally find the way to reunite with Orlando (bass) and restart what it should never be stopped in our minds; PrincesS - the project that perfectly represented our being musicians and songwriters. About the band name, many different stories and explanations came out by fans and people around the band through the years; they were funny to us cause they sounded like legends - someone said that we consider us as "sons" of Queen, others cause my ambiguous way to perform or cause at the time, close to our zone, there was a hotel called Princess or because we open the dictionary and the first word we noticed was that one. You know what? I think that all those stories and opinions, perfectly represent the reason why this name is the only possible one for us! CR: In the Royal Hierarchy The Queen is the first, then the Princess, many will say in a conspiratorial tone in a good way that the band tries to emulate Queen's legacy by the special atmosphere of theater and opera elements that you imprint on your songs.
I want to ask you if anyone close to Queen has heard PrincesS's music? What comments do you have about it? FW: Queen are probably our strong inspiration but not the only one at least, even if I cannot criticize who wanna underline this fact - many people through the time (and even now) love or hate PrincesS cause of this. Especially in some tunes and their vocal attitude, the allusion to them it's obvious and we like it this way - in Lovely Heaven there's even our personal tribute to Freddie - “We Still Love You (Song for Mercury)". It's too late to deny it at this point, but anyone of us wanna do it! If someone close to Queen gives our tunes a listen, I really don’t know, but what can I say more than "if you have a damn direct contact of them, just give it to us!" (laughs) CR: We want to know if the band has had presentations in other countries outside of Italy?
If the answer is Yes, how do you feel about playing for other audiences at special concerts or festivals around Europe? FW: Unfortunately never with PrincesS - not at the time and especially not now - cause we're a studio project and no more a live band today (too difficult to reunite all of us for a tour, but at the same time we cannot change members cause we're all mastermind of the project itself, even if the idea to perform with the band worldwide never die), but just consider that our music is inspired by the English and American one, so we're usually better followed outside than in this country, as we imagined from the beginning and that's ok for us. CR: Has it been easy or difficult for PrincesS to obtain national or international recognition? FW: For sure it's difficult to be noticed in this country cause it seems all young people love so much a kind of music that we either consider music at all, but we don't really care cause - even if we don't deny to be a little commercial sometimes and with some catchy tunes - we sound so vintage and our main inspirations aren't exactly helping to reach the mainstream distribution. But at the same time, I think that - no matter what - if you have a lot of money to invest in it, whatever you're playing will be everywhere. It's just a fact of money; hope to get the chance to find the right way to introduce us in there cause I'm sure there are some nice tunes that can conquer the radio all around... CR: From your point of view, how do you look at recording a live album or DVD with the band in the future? It would be an interesting project for the history of PrincesS.
FW: Sure mate! About a live album is improbable right now cause - as I said before - we're a studio project now but, if we find the way to come back on stage, we'll probably consider the idea. It could be nice a short DVD too (or just a video to share all around) about us (history and tunes) ... let's see what about it in the future - right now we're more than busy about producing and managing our next stuff... CR: Previously, you had the collaboration of Goblin, if you wanted for a new album by the band, who would you like to work with as a special guest? FW: I can anticipate that on our third album (it should be out this year if this damn coronavirus let us restart) there will be another great special guest - don't want to anticipate too much, but it will be a hard & heavy album so this special guest is about that genre... you'll see soon! Anyway, there are many of them we'd like to give hospitality on our albums... members of The Doors, Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin. I know, it is impossible right now, but who knows... in the future, maybe... to dream about it it's anything bad at least. CR: Once this worldwide emergency for COVID-19 is over, do you have any plans to tour or are you preparing new ideas for a new album? FW: The curious thing is that this damn virus doesn't stop the project for real - it just slows down the production of our third album - but at the same time it gives us the possibility to have more free time to invest in it, so we're composing enough stuff for the fifth album too! In this band, the problem is not to have enough tunes to think about a next album but to find the right time to produce everything we have cause we're ever so inspired. CR: What is the message you want to send to those who read this special interview and thank you for answering our questions for our audience on Conexion Rock Radio?
FW: More than a message, I’d just like to request to everyone out there to give us a chance. Just push play wherever you find our music and give it a chance. It cannot be anything worst but maybe it can give you some emotion - who doesn’t need them? You just need a few minutes of your time to enjoy it while we spend years producing it so, push play and dream with us. At least, you can ever skip to something else with no problems... PS: I'd like to underline a real big special thank to you Johonny and CRR cause the time you spent on us and the dedication you use to find interesting questions about the project - so few people work as you do and it gives us more satisfaction than the classic "back and forth" usually you have to face in the interviews. Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts - we appreciated it a lot CR: Freddie, thanks for your time in this interview. We wish you the best for you and your band in your future projects. Our website and online radio have the doors open to give them the support and dissemination they deserve in our region, and we hope to be able to converse again to continue the great history that PrincesS makes with music! FW: We can just be happy and proud to be present on your radio so feel free to transmit PrincesS all the time you want - just our pleasure to know it! God bless you all, friends! Special thanks to Freddie Wolf for the time given in this special interview for our readers in Central, Latin America and the rest of the world.
