The Making and the Fall of Man) dura 15 minutos.

RUNNING WILD
A Bloody Crossing The Blades An adventure full of Pirates, Tales and History is what we have for all of you in this special report that Conexion Rock Radio has on its 12th Anniversary, and this band returns through the big door with an album that will be one of the big winners in the last quarter of 2021 and that for many fans, buccaneers, corsairs and sailors from all over the world it will be a moment of celebration once they have this new treasure in their hands, either in physical or digital format and that it will be a mandatory to play this it all volume either with wine, rum and beer. In our tour of the world (and the 7 seas) we reached Germany, precisely in Hamburg where we chat with Captain Rock 'n' Rolf Kasparek, Guitar, Voice and the mastermind behind the band Running Wild, who are back with his new album called Blood on Blood, which will set sail on October 29 through the Steamhammer label, and this time they present us with a lineup that is complemented by Peter Jordan- Guitars, Ole Hempelman- Bass, and Michael Wolpers- Drums. With Rolf we talked about the current situation that Running Wild has in the months that the band had to forcibly stop its activities as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, the concept they offer us with this new installment, the expectations that the new members have, and therefore course of the ambitious plans that these German Pirates have for all their fans around the world with this new adventure that is consecrated to be a classic in their already consolidated career that would begin in 1976 when they were called Granite Hearts and then in 1979 change their name to Running Wild, and that by 2022 we all witness a Bloody Crossing The Blades. Conexión Rock Radio: Greetings from Honduras Rolf, a pleasure talking to you on this day, and we send you our good wishes that everyone is well at home, and it is an honor to do a report for Running Wild fans about the next news that the band. in this year, welcome!
Rolf Kasparek: Hello Johonny, good evening from Germany (from the time of the interview due to time differences in Rolf's house it was night, while in Central America it was noon) an honor to speak to someone from far away, and I thank you the interest towards the band and the good wishes, I hope that things are good in your region so that I can go and play later. CR: Thanks Rolf, here we wish the same and many people are looking forward to enjoying tours and concerts again. I start my conversation on this day with you to find out how it has been for Running Wild in dealing with this problem that since 2020 has left fans and bands without live shows and tours both in Germany and in other countries. RK: The truth is that not everything has been bad for the Running Wild camp, we had plans to participate in several festivals since the pandemic began in 2020, then they were rescheduled to 2021, but due to the current circumstances that the world is currently suffering, everything is moving to 2022. So we decided to take advantage of this live downtime to go into the studio and record a new album. So it wasn't all bad for us after all. CR: For that reason we share good news for all corsairs around the world, Running Wild will release its new album called Blood on Blood this October 29, and everything indicates that this will be another of the best releases at the end. 2021, what are your expectations with this new work?
RK: I consider this one of the best albums that I have made in my career with the band, since in the first place the production is the most remarkable point when we start recording in the studio. In my point of view all the songs have different aspects to each other, especially the content that we presented for Blood on Blood, in the same way we tried new things that we never experienced in our sound, and that in the end we were satisfied once the process was over. In terms of expectations, it is a fact that everyone will welcome the album with open arms. CR: It's been 5 years since Rapid Foray, even though you released the EP Crossing the Blades in 2019, many have wondered what happened during all these years. Projects?
Or did you consider waiting a few years to say this is the perfect time to record something new? RK: This great time hiatus occurred one for the Rapid Foray tour, and on the other hand it took a long time, the best thing back then was to stop and start preparing new things, we talked about 2017 when I started to gather ideas for Another process was aware that we could experience different things, and with the passage of time things began to come naturally, for that reason despite not being active in festivals I dedicated more time to the band for the composition of this new album, and in 2019 we had the opportunity to appear at the Wacken Open Air, and we saw this as a process of pauses that had more development between 2019 and 2020. It was necessary to launch something after five years of absence, and once everything was prepared we launched as an advance Crossing the Blades, the band made the most of all that time to record and shape these 10 songs that make up this release CR: This new work marks a major change in the history of the band: Ole Hempelmann is the new bass player, as is Michael Wolpers on drums.
What impressions do you and Peter have of the contribution Ole and Michael have made to Blood on Blood? RK: First of all, Michael played drums for the first time on this album, and from the moment we started working in the studio he knew that he was a person who was 100% involved with his instrument. In those days before Ole's arrival I played bass, although in the process I had problems with the logistics of the sound, and I was looking for a way to adapt the sound of the bass to my guitar, and I determined that it was difficult for me. Some time later Ole appeared and we offered him the position of bass player, which he gladly accepted. CR: This album has memorable songs like Blood On Blood, Say Your Prayers, Diamonds and Pearls, One Night, One Day that we could think in the first minutes that it is a ballad but that takes force as we advance in the song, and here a lot of people wants to hear them live. And here Rolf, we have an album that on its own merits is another classic in your career, are you all satisfied with the final result that was achieved in the studio? RK: Absolutely. First of all, I am satisfied with the greater amount of time that was invested in the production process and thus present the tapes with the finished album to the record company within 10 days. Despite the difficulties that we live in the pandemic, we had a considerable delay of two months and had to add two more months, although in general terms I organized a small list of things that were not satisfied, and in general terms we lost 5% of everything that this new work represents in terms of quality. CR: Many will say that once they listen to the album in digital or have it physically, they will have that joy and at the same time the feeling that they will recover the sound of glorious classics such as Port Royal, Death or Glory, or the majestic Under Jolly Roger. on par with the new members who have refreshed the sound of Running with a more modern touch.
What do you think about this? RK: I would like to say that our sound is hybrid for this album, and it is something that Running has done over the years with other releases mixing classic and modern things. Something that will attract the attention of many will be One Night, One Day, which is something different from what we have traditionally done long ago, and for that reason Running Wild has always been characterized by making completely different songs without the need to alter or lose its identity. CR: Quick parenthesis The Iron Times is a historical reference to the war of the Holy Roman Empire, which is known as the Thirty Years' War?, curiously we have one of the longest songs in the band's discography since Genesis (The Making and the Fall of Man) lasts 15 minutes. (This track appears on the 94 Black Hand Inn album) and something that will attract attention is the repair of Adrián, his mascot. What does the band offer us now in this new Rolf adventure? RK: The attitude of making these songs came from years ago, I was looking for the perfect melodies that could work perfectly on the album, and I could tell you that this has been my best material despite living surrounded by tragedy, sadness and chaos, and so on. it was best for all of us to move on. From there came the idea of making the cover bringing Adrián back but this time first developing the idea with Crossing The Blades, and from there for Blood on Blood crossing a pirate sword with a rapier sword and having Adrián in the middle, and between Lines was a hybrid album making a surrender to the Three Musketeers, hence the phrase All for one and one for all! (which appears in the Blood on Blood chorus), although this phrase is not suitable for Pirates, the Musketeers would not like you to take that phrase, except that they do not wish to survive (laughs) CR: For many they will look at Blood On Blood as the favorite track on the album and the one that could perfectly open in live concerts.
RK: For me it was one of the first songs that I worked on as an idea, I thought at first to make a video, possibly later. The history of this song goes back like other songs from the Rapid Foray era, I wrote it in 5 minutes. And the best thing was to have the idea in hand before for many reasons it was forgotten or left out of the project, when I entered the studio and began to prepare the production of the album, Mike would arrive to record the drums, so we would solve quickly the recording of the bases of the song, and from that moment I said to myself: this song will be a classic. CR: Almost forty-three years of career and many studio albums without neglecting EPs, compilations and live albums. Each release represents a part of the Running Wild story, as well as the musicians who have contributed over the years. Are you satisfied with all that you have accomplished from the days of Granite Hearts to this day? RK: Absolutely, all this has been a long journey that we started being very young back then, in the first 5 or 6 years we have grown and learned many things, and currently we have had the opportunity to tour, play in big stadiums and share stage with names like Guns N´Roses or KISS, I consider that the band has already consolidated and all that process was very noticeable in the mid-80's and all of the 90's, all that was to be constant in what we wanted, to go ahead and fight with various challenges. If it were not like that, the band would not exist and we would have lasted very little. CR: Blood on Blood is the band's fourth album with Steamhammer, we know that most of their history was released on Noise Records and later they continued to make a career with GUN Records, how does it feel to be part of a label that have them? supported you to this day?
RK: We are lucky that a major label like SPV is currently supporting us. In those years the people of Noise Records have helped us with the release of many albums that with the passage of time were classics, and as always happens in the industry there were disagreements that made Running Wild continue in other ways, which is why We worked with EMI Electrola, who helped us with the international distribution of our works in Noise, and with them (EMI) came the albums Death and Glory and Pile of Skulls, then we would return to Noise and we completed a pending cycle until Masquerade in 1995, and then we moved to GUN Records and released The Rivalry in '98, and we had a number releases unti to Rogues at Vogue in 2005. With SPV it was like starting everything from the beginning, and many bands were without the support of a record company that supports them or a public relations agency that moves them internationally. All that has changed for many years, and sometimes it implied that the band contributed their work in a process, or the label took care so that everything went well, now everything is a two-part process that commits to making a product of quality and that can meet people's expectations. CR: Being the mastermind behind the band, what is your point of view on the pandemic that has generated a sudden change in the music industry around the world, and that many bands have chosen to separate due to lack of economic income, and who had great losses at the beginning of this emergency, comments?
RK: Not at all. When we were in the studio developing the album process we had planned to play several festivals in the fall, and as I said before and then it was considered that the album would come out much earlier than planned, but the pandemic came and we considered at that point to take as many as possible. time possible and for us that was a benefit. Now, with the album ready, it remains to hope to schedule several shows for 2022, although for now no one knows what might happen later, so at that point I can't foresee the future (laughs), and I look at this release as the greatest effort ever. has done so far, and with the problem we are currently experiencing, I am aware that there have been many people affected, not only the bands that have had to make a leap of faith to launch good works during this confinement and make our music reach the people All over the world, the situation also affected especially the sound technicians and roadies who have been with us on tours, and being locked up they would automatically lose their jobs and there was a time when the support for these people was between a minimum point to zero, and they choose by necessity to look for different jobs to stay afloat during all these months until things return to normal. It only remains to hope that 2022 will be a good year for everyone equally. CR: Running Wild is considered an influence for many bands that in their lyrics speak of pirates and history. How do you feel hearing comments from bands that are grateful for your music and that follow in your footsteps?
RK: There are several musicians around the world who have been influenced by the sound of Running Wild, for example, Jon Larsen from Volbeat and Sabaton are our friends and they have told us that since they were young they have listened to our music, and even other bands have known about it. Our Existence by Blazon Stone (1991), and many of those bands have initially followed in our footsteps and over the years have forged their own identity. To this day many young people keep mentioning us, and that Johonny is something that gives me joy and that fills me with pride to be part of a legacy that has lived for generations. CR: Is the band currently planning to celebrate its more than four decades with a special concert? Or would yo make anniversary releases for some albums? For example, Blazon Stone turns thirty this year, similarly Pile of Skulls but for 2022 and The Brotherhood twenty next year.
RK: The truth that I didn't know about record anniversaries (laughs) are things that take you by surprise. To be honest about an anniversary tour project I am not sure if this will be done or not due to the pandemic and how all this reactivates in the coming months. We had plans to do something like this, but all this forced us to postpone many things within the band, we could do something in 2022, we will have to wait for the conditions and the moment to be ideal, since when the pandemic generated a stop in everyone was in the best interest of gathering ideas, having as much time as possible and entering the studio. If all goes well, it is very possible that we will do something mixing songs from these albums with the new release. CR: Hopefully so, here in Central and Latin America you have a strong fan base that has followed you for many years, and who have discovered you with albums like Under Jolly Roger, Gates to Purgatory, or Port Royal, and in special where they became known more with anthems such as Conquistadores, Calico Jack, Port Royal and Into the Arena. Many people want to see the band and enjoy their history and legacy at a concert. Do you see this possible in the coming years for our region? RK: We have received from our agents several proposals to play in Central and Latin America, the problem lies in a good offer for the band, and since all this problem began in 2020 many things have changed and as I told you before we will see what happens Later if everything is favorable for touring outside of Germany, since in several countries there is no activity to do live shows, and until we get the green light again we can play again, and we can prepare a good concert for the fans, but for Now we hope that all this improves and we can be with the fans of those countries in the near future. CR: What message do you want to send to all the people who have read this interview, and thank you again for the time you gave me on this day for Conexión Rock Radio
RK: Thanks to you Johonny for the interview and for the interest in knowing more about the new Running Wild album, my message to the fans of Latin America, and especially those of Honduras is to stay well in this confinement, thank you for appreciating our music and especially what will be released soon, and if everything improves, we hope to see you face to face on a tour and have a good time with all of you. A hug from Germany!
