From Toronto, Canada, it appears before all of you: SAINT ASONIA A band formed in 2015 by Adam Gontier, and currently returning through the big door with his new album, the second in his career called Flawed Design, and marking the band's debut with the Spinefarm Records Label, resulting in good reviews from fans and specialized media, who look at this new album as a strong competitor in their discography.
Saint Asonia is currently conformed by: Adam Gontier- Guitars and Vocals, Mike Mushok- Guitars, and the new additions are represented by Cale Gontier- Bass and Chorus, and Cody Watkins- Drums.
Next, we share with you all the history, and news that Saint Asonia has for its fans, and of the new ones that will be incorporated from now on:
Conexion Rock Radio: Adam, greetings from Honduras, Central America, nice to have you here for our readers who want to know about the next news that a great band like Saint Asonia has this year. Welcome! Adam Gontier: Thank you Johonny for the interest in conversing on this day with your audience there in your region!
CR: Start this interview in know about the reception that critics and fans have given to their new album called Flawed Design. How do you feel as a band to return with a new album in your hands? AG: It's good to come back with a new work after almost 5 years of silence, all this was partly due to the changes we had in the band years ago, that's why we decided to take some time and look for the right musicians. The idea is to have a stable formation in the coming years. The reception has been very favorable, we have had good reviews from critics giving good scores to the album, and fans have known how to enjoy this result in the concerts, they have received us very well, and we are happy with the great moment that the band currently has
CR: If your self-titled work of 2015 was acclaimed by everyone, with this new album we believe we have a band with fresh ideas, and that this marks an interesting direction in its sound. What experiences do they have of having worked with Brian Sperber as producer?
AG: We have known how to make good ideas before entering the studio, and we all contribute to shape the album and take a different course to what we did in 2015, with Brian it has been an important part of the whole process, we have pushed our limits capabilities and we believe that we have done a great job, many think it is the best so far, only time will put everything in its place (laughs) but we are living in the moment, and that counts!
CR: An interesting point is the special guests: Sharon den Adel (Sirens), Sully Erna (The Hunted), Keith Wallen and Dustin Bates. What impressions do you have of these interesting collaborations for Flawed Design? AG: We are fortunate to have your talent for this album. They have given a different character to each of the songs where they participate, especially for the composition, it has been an honor to have them in the studio and if the opportunity is given in the future we hope to have them again, they are very talented people.
CR: We know that this is the second album of his career and the first with Spinefarm Records. How does the band feel in being part of an interesting label like this? AG: We are honored to work with them, from the moment we decided to join forces we had high expectations that something interesting would come from us, after several weeks in the study and having everything ready we gave them a high quality material, the seal He has supported us with a strong promotion, and that is the result, and we hope to launch more work with them in the future.
CR: In your own words, how would you define this new album? Is Flawed a conceptual work or do we have several stories around the tracks? AG: They don't handle a conceptual line of truth. All of us equally have shaped our personal experiences as Another Fight, Martyrs, or The Hunted, in addition to what we capture daily in the world has been all that a source of inspiration for our songs and we have molded them separately avoiding doing something conceptual online It would be difficult for us to make a story with a story arc like this.
CR: Personal comment, I have the chance for listen the album previously, and I must say that they have done a great job, the production has been a favorable point for the sound in Flawed, tracks like Sirens, The Haunted, the title track, These are examples that many will say that this album must be played entirely in a concert! They have managed to win people with this! AG: Thank you for your words, I am very glad that you enjoyed the work as well as many on our tours, as I told you before we have given all our effort to do something that makes us proud, and we have achieved it, and comments from you and of other people they are a motivation and a signal that for the next album it is a personal and musical challenge, when that moment arrives we hope to give an album worthy of our career.
CR: How do you feel that the band is now a group and not a supergroup as people said for the first album? Or do you feel comfortable with the term "supergroup" I make this comment because everyone sees in this lineup as the one that will give surprises for the next albums, comments... AG: (Laughs) I really don't feel uncomfortable with the term or whatever they call us, this has been the product of several trends from previous years, and more with marketing issues. We are not super musicians to make fabulous albums at first sight, we are musicians and normal people who join our talents to do something different, and by doing that we take it for granted, can you imagine a world full of supergroups? It would be something out of control, literally a gang fight to prove who is the best, that is a battle of egos.
CR: Are you satisfied with the whole story that has been written so far with 2 albums with the band? AG: More than satisfied, it was a struggle of years that has paid off, we have all contributed collectively the best of us both the first and current members. It is a story that must continue to be written, and for that reason we are here making good music and being the voice of those in this world.
CR: A quick parenthesis. For those who know and listen to the band for the first time I would like to know why the name "Saint Asonia", everyone will think that you are a band of Saints with Christian lyrics (laughs) Please, what detail can you share with us? AG: (Laughs) Well, Santa Asonia means "The Saint of the Deafness of Tono". We searched several names in a dictionary and, we came across the word "Asonia", and we thought it was fun to use that word in the name of a band. For a band to call itself a dull tone is somewhat ironic. Then someone added Saint, and we thought it sounded great
CR: ¿ Any future plans for tours in Latin America? AG: Well, it will be a matter of time to see who is interested in playing in Latin America, although I have noticed by reference of friends from other bands that have toured in these countries and tell us that the public is different, delivered and wild in the concerts, and there is a lot of comparison among fans in America or Europe. We hope in the future to be able to play for your region and take our sound to new fans along the way. For now we have tours in several cities in Canada for mid-March, and we will play the rest of the year in the United States, we are adding dates to our concert agenda, and we will have bands that will join us in this road.
CR: What message do you want to send to those who read us on this day? Thank you for answering all our questions on Conexion Rock Radio, it was a great honor to share with our audience about the music and history of a great band like Saint Asonia.
