SANHEDRIN

SANHEDRIN
A Big Drive That Lights On Creative Twists Heavy Metal with a bit of Doom and female vocals It is the interesting combination that we offer you with the following proposal that appears in this report that Conexión Rock Radio has for you, and this is another recommendation for those who want to listen to something fresh and innovative at the same time. Our stop is in Brooklyn, New York, and our guest this time is Nathan Honor, Drummer of the Heavy Metal band Sanhedrin, who shares interesting details about the release and reception of his new record material, the third in his career called Lights. On, which literally came to light last March 4 and marks the debut with the Metal Blade Records label, thus being one of the albums that will be one of the favorites of new fans this year, implying that with this new job the band has a bright future ahead of it. Sanhedrin was formed in 2015 and that same year they would release a demo, but it would be in 2017 that they would attract the attention of locals and strangers with their debut called A Funeral for the World, and from there they would begin a career on the rise, and that shares these achievements with his bandmates: Erica Stoltz- Bass and Vocals, and Jeremy Sosville- Guitars and Backing Vocals. We invite you to sit back as you browse this band's music, break out the drinks and snacks, and enjoy what this Power Trio has to offer in A Big Drive That Lights On Creative Twists. Conexion Rock Radio: Hi Nathan, how are you! Thank you for the time you will give us on this opportunity back home, we send you our best wishes that everyone is well, and it is an honor to do this interview for our readers about the plans that Sanhedrin has in 2022, welcome! Nathan Honor: Hi Johonny, thanks for having me here, and it's a joy to talk with you and with the Latin American public, that surely with this new album that we have in the streets it will be a fact that we will have many fans there from your area. CR: It is a fact that many people will have the attention of the band in this interview, and some of them keep track of them years ago, others will meet them this year, and as things have been there in New York for you, you have been able to play or are things complicated by restrictions? NH: We have had the opportunity to play several shows at the beginning of this year, which has been very favorable for us, we had a recent one on March 26 as part of the promotion of the new album, and all this is a clear sign that the concerts are coming back, and for the entertainment industry and the world in general it is positive, yes, it is happening slowly but surely. CR: For now that's the important thing Nathan, and among all the good things besides going back to concerts is that we have a new album by the band and it's called Lights On, and it was released on March 4 worldwide through Metal Blade Records, what impressions have you had from fans and critics, because everything indicates that we have an album that will be one of the favorites this year
NH: I feel honored with your comment, Johnny, thank you, the truth is that we have left everything on this album and we are proud of what we have done in the studio, and we know that many people have applauded the album, and the main reason is that we love making music and the reactions have been very positive, and we are very grateful for the support from the moment we released the singles and the album in these last few weeks. CR: You deserve it, the album has managed to captivate people, and many will know the band for this new work. By the way, we know that prior to the pandemic they were promoting The Poisoner, another great album in my opinion. How have you felt as a band in facing a confinement that would last a long time without tours or concerts back home? NH: 2020 was a complicated year in many ways, we had a couple of concerts prepared for Europe, everything was working very well when the pandemic hit us, despite the lockdown and restrictions we were able to complete 6 songs for the new album and we entered the studio in the first months of 2020 and we finished everything in the stipulated time, so we could breathe easy and be able to rest more, which is rare in new York, and once the process was well advanced we exchanged files back and forth to know what changes were needed in the songs. The intention was for the album to come out in 2021, but already in the circumstances we live in, the best thing for everyone was to wait to release it at the right time, 2022 was the right year for us to release Lights On. CR: We know that this album, as you mentioned, was recorded in the middle of the pandemic, was it easy or complicated for you to be able to make an album despite the confinement, distance and restrictions?
NH: Actually the process for this album was very difficult, I'm a sound engineer, but all my tools and equipment were under lock and key at work, I had no computers to record, no audio interface, no microphones (laughs) so everything I recorded this on my phone, and for me it was the first time I did something like this. Since we recorded The Poisoner some time ago I could understand that we were working everything from an external perspective, when the pandemic arrived and we started recording the demos we were dealing with the stress of the lockdown, the negative news that surrounded us during all this time, the amount of dead and let's add this the economic damage caused by the pandemic in the short term. Our need and at the same time the answer to those problems was to make music, when it came time to record the songs I met with Jeremy (the guitarist) and he lives out of town, and we were in the studio for four days and we did everything in one single take. Everything happened in a practical and direct way for everyone, since we were especially determined to release an album quickly, so it was best to take the time that was necessary despite the risk of spending more money on the studio budget and we were with the conviction that everything would work out in the end, and now that the album is released we feel very proud to record something fresh and we are happy with the good reactions that people have let us know since then. CR: Tracks like Correction, Lights On, Change Takes Forever, Scythian Women and Death Is a Door are the strengths of this album and that many people will want to hear at their live concerts, for many who heard the band for the first time will see this as a great discovery because of the mixture you have between heavy metal, doom and stoner, how do you feel as a band to attract the attention of new audiences around the world?
NH: We wanted to simplify a little bit with this record, you know, with The Poisoner we took a little bit of a risk and stepped out of the box a little bit and for this record we're like, you know, we're just I'm going to keep the sound of the band that is our identity . I like to hear from new bands, and there are also bands that have been doing amazing things for years like Gojira. I consider that they are very good at what they do, and one of those examples is their drummer Mario Duplantier, I felt like a 13-year-old boy seeing him play and that blew my mind, it was incredible, and we wanted to do something timeless in his line and pay tribute to those bands that in the past inspired us to follow in their footsteps. Regarding your question, it is good to know that the songs you mention are the ones that we like too, and the album sounds so good from start to finish that despite having 8 songs and lasting almost 42 minutes, it makes us say from the inside that this is how we wanted to make a good album. CR: How do you feel in working again with Colin Marston for the production and mixing of this new album, I think he detected a winning formula in the band that has served a lot in the evolution of their sound, what do you think of this?
NH: Colin is a person who understands music well, his works with Dysrhythmia and Gorguts speak for themselves, and many consider him to be a very talented person with deep knowledge when doing something in the studio, he perfectly understands what what you are looking for, and gives you good ideas instantly. Already with Colin it's our third album, so we have a very good working relationship in the studio, and everything works in a quick and easy way. As you said he's made a very solid sound with our first two albums, and we're looking to evolve in a more cohesive way, and with Colin things have gone to a new level with Lights On. CR: Currently the band with this new album debuts with Metal Blade Records.
What impressions do you have of being part of one of the most important labels in the world and that it has been the cradle of legendary names on the scene? NH: It's like a dream come true absolutely, I mean, ever since I was a kid I was skateboarding listening to Slayer's Show No Mercy, the Metal Massacre compilations and all that stuff. Since I started in the music business and being part of a big label was one of my dreams, and I was convinced that sooner or later they would come true. I am super happy that the people of the label through its executives, press people and public relations, have been incredible with us. Metal Blade has given us massive support and we have done our part to make it all go well, so I'm very grateful and very proud of that. CR: Already with three albums released, how do you see the evolution that Sanhedrin has had until today? Many consider that if you continue like this you would go very far with your music. What do you think about this? NH: Being part of a 3-piece band with perfect chemistry is very good and great at the same time, Johnny, working as a team makes all things easier, like ideas with songs and music, we exchange ideas and everyone wants to leave their mark on every song that is recorded. I consider that we are very lucky to be friends and bandmates because we are talented with our proposal I think this band is really great working together. You know I mean the way we write songs as we bounce ideas off each other and everyone likes to leave their mark on every song they're so talented it's easy to make music with them I'm serious we walk into a room and walk out with a lot of ideas . Which for us is really cool. CR: What do you think about this situation that has affected us and that people, despite wanting to go back to a concert, are afraid that they will get infected again?
NH: It was a very difficult time for all of us living in isolation for 2 years, you know, I've never spent this much time in my adult life away from other people, I've never spent this much time away from work, you know, in many ways it was good to have that break to orient myself and reinvent myself in these situations, especially when you are under siege from real and fake news, especially from scientists, now that things are getting back on track and concerts are slowly resuming their activities, it makes all this worth waiting depending on how independently you feel, know if you feel safe, but don't worry, everything will happen eventually and we will know how to control a contagion situation or alerts arise, that is indicative that you should not trust, the virus still It is loose. But with vaccines and medical advances all this will be reduced to a simple flu and we will be keeping our fingers crossed that we can quickly return to playing for people. We all hope so. CR: Is Sanhedrin for or against online festivals? Have you had the opportunity to play in any in recent months? NH: The truth is that we haven't done this type of shows because we, being a band from New York, have a lot of work, Erica lives in the north of the state, and to get together to do an event like this requires time to rehearse, and make sure that everyone let's be there Participating in an event requires a lot of investment since everything is very expensive, because some people who organize these broadcasts seek to monetize everything for themselves, and for us we are looking for people who want to invest their effort for the benefit of the people with a fair principle. . We are a band that plays rock anywhere, whether in person or online, we seek to adapt to new trends and try to reach as many people as possible if something like this were given the opportunity. CR: Already with the album in the streets, do you have plans to perform in the next few days or for now everything is uncertain for the band as far as tours are concerned?
NM: We have already launched the album at the St. Vitus Bar and we will be traveling to various points in Europe together with other bands that will accompany us along the way, and we hope to be able to play as many shows as possible there. Then we'll be performing at Chicago's Legions Of Metal in May, and then we'll be performing in Pittsburgh between June and July, so we invite people to keep an eye on our networks for news we have in the coming months. CR: At the end of this interview, Nathan, what message do you want to send to the people who have read and enjoyed this interview with you, and thank you again for your time there in New York.
NH: Thanks to you, Johonny, for the interview, it was great to talk to someone from your region, we thank the people who have supported us, who have followed us for all these years, and we hope that the album we have released will be to their complete satisfaction. , we wish to see you very soon on several tours and play all this material for all of you. Thanks to Sarah Lutz and Natasha Gorey of Metal Blade Records for their help in this interview and to Nathan Honor for the time allowed at home
