SATE
An Artist Who Has The Universe In Her Favor If you are looking to hear new proposals for this last stretch of 2021, we present you a voice that shines by its own merit, and that this time presents us with a new adventure that seeks to conquer new audiences around the world, and in this report you will learn everything related to it. to her history and to the promising future that she has internationally. We come to Ontario, Canada, and our guest this time: SATE, welcomes us to her home to share interesting details about her new record production, the second in her career called The Fool, which is officially released at the beginning of November. of 2021, thus adding to the extensive list of good launches that many have enjoyed throughout this year, and the SATE proposal is no exception. We talked about her history, the musical evolution she has had in various parts of the world after her acclaimed Red, Black and Blue, the concept that she offers us in this new production, and the future that the letters have predicted of this artist that with her charisma for many could be considered a guardian angel ... and for others he seeks to reach as far as possible with his sound because he has ... the universe in his favor. Conexión Rock Radio: Greetings from Honduras SATE, we send you our good wishes that everything is well there at home, and it is a pleasure to talk with you on this day in this special report for our readers where they will learn about your proposal and future plans this year welcome! SATE: Thank you Johonny for the good wishes, and it is a joy to be able to talk with someone from Honduras, I hope later that all this improves visiting your country and other places in Central America. CR: How has it been for you as an artist in dealing with the limited conditions that have been given in Canada to do live shows, and especially tours in other countries? SATE: I mean, I think it has been a challenge for everyone and for me it has been like a kind of perception of how I want to be seen, and how everything has changed since the beginning of 2020, many will wonder: This will be the world in What will we live then? Will I be able to do what I want and will these conditions continue to make me happy as before? You know Johonny, I really miss being on stage, but I have learned a lot during this time in my soul, and my spirit did a lot of soul searching, and I have learned a lot how to make music without depending on anyone and be more self-sufficient. CR: Very interesting to know that despite everything you have taken everything with a lot of attitude and good vibes, and speaking of it, there is good news for your fans and of course, those who will know about your music in this interview, you will soon release your second album called The Fool, which will be released on November 4, 2021, via CLK Creative Works.
By the way, congratulations this is another good launch for the last months of 2021. What are your expectations for this big new step in your career? Many consider this possibly in terms of reference and musical quality to be one of your best works, in short a strong contender in your discography. SATE: Thank you very much for that detail of appreciating my music and that you have that concept of it. This album definitely really helped me evolve. I think every time I create art or even go on stage and perform I am always evolving and growing as an artist. I think this album really challenged me (laughs) because I started writing the album and actually it all started in 2018 and I previewed Dirty Little Lie, and then I decided to go back and work on some things and rework on other ideas. For this work some interludes were added to give it meaning and thus complete the story, to make it the way I have always dreamed of, and that is what the pandemic did, it actually gave me the opportunity to say what I want to do in This album exactly, how I feel and how I would feel if I did it well and as I told you before, it was a challenge, it was a beautiful challenge and I am very excited to share it with people and that everyone can enjoy it. CR: Perhaps in other circumstances you would wait for the pandemic to end to make official this new release ... but, on the other hand, the dissemination on social networks and platforms has been a plus for the promotion of the album.
What are your thoughts on releasing The Fool in an unusual situation like this? SATE: Actually I mean, I think I think there will be an opportunity to do it. I think I will reach more people due to the fact that I have so much understanding from them, many people will understand much more about how to reach others digitally around the world. I feel that once I decide to do the launch party or the concert or the experience, that it is accessible to both those who live in Toronto, as well as others who follow me in other countries and continents, so everyone will have a great experience when that moment comes. CR: How do you feel working with Dave Cox in the studio again? SATE: I must clarify that David is my manager, who produced my first album Red Black & Blue was Thomas McKay. And for The Fool, the production are in charge of Hill Kourkoutis, with her I have a great friendship and I feel lucky to having great musicians in my environment. Since I worked with Tom I had enough support and motivation that I needed to make very good music, he would tell me "keep going, don't stop".
With Hill the experience was very rewarding because it was a pressure that she had as an artist to give her best. She plays the piano and keyboards in my band. We are very good friends with her for a long time to the point that I appear on one of her albums and had the opportunity to write songs with her in that process. So it is like a family and I feel that both (Tom and Hill) listen to me, and the understanding with them is very clear in terms of the musical direction that I take once I enter the studio, and it is there in general terms that I look for the better way of how I want my music to sound, and especially when it is performed at live shows and studio. CR: Five years have passed since your debut, everyone will wonder what reasons existed behind this long absence ... personal projects or were you waiting for the right moment to record something new?
SATE: In those days I had a lot of tours, so I would say it was time to do something new until the Universe gave me signals to start composing for what would become The Fool. I've noticed a lot of signals, synchronicities, dreams and things like that, and they came naturally. All this pushed me to write this new album. CR: First of all, thank you for correcting me in the data about the producer SATE, and it is interesting to know from the point of view of how your work environment has been the best for this new page in your career.
For The Fool you have the participation of Ursula Rucker as a guest, what impressions do you have of the contribution that she made for the track SFC? SATE: I heard Ursula for the first time on The Roots' debut album which is a Hip Hop band. Some time ago I had the opportunity to share the stage with her doing a show with her and we have a strong friendship to the point that we consider ourselves sisters in the musical, it only made sense for me to ask her to be part of this to have her voice and her dialogue that would appear on the final track of The Fool album, and I can regard Ursula's input as a great blessing. CR: If Red Black & Blue was a record that put you in everyone's sights with The Fool, it's guaranteed that you will go a long way with your music.
What is your point of view on the musical evolution that you have had from the first album to this new one? SATE: First of all, thank you very much! I believe that with each album and the music that I make, it makes me a better person, where I learn more about myself and, throughout the time, I was able to push myself to places and explore more soundscapes and feelings creating the feeling of a universe in whose skin is manifested that it makes music and that it reflects all this in a theater mode. With all this I reflect what I am as a person, it is what I liked and I have loved the experience lived in years in capturing the full expression of art as a creator, so this is definitely a transition towards a more experimental point , and this is what I get from music, and that I seek to share with everyone. CR: Here we find great moments like The Fool, Dirty Little Lie, Nobody, Howler, The World, Famous are Good, and that is the main reason why many people expect to hear these songs in your live shows.
Everything indicates that it will be something related to the Tarot and Astrology, especially on the cover and other details that people will see once they have it in their hands. What is the concept that you offer us with The Fool, are there different stories? SATE: There's everything there and that's a, I mean, with Red, Black and Blue, it was the beginning of that because it was me, I was being guided by three animal guide animals and that was the robin, the black panther and the blue morpho butterfly, for that reason it is the name of the album. I consider that I was born to observe the stars, the Moon, the Sun and the planets, astrology, the Tarot and numerology are things that are within me because we are cosmic beings and star dust. So The Fool is just another beginning with different things and that interesting aspects are incorporated into my music implying between the lines "who is the fool", I could reflect this in a single sentence: Every person on this earth is a fool in your own journey. CR: Currently SATE has had musicians who have collaborated on tours and studio recordings. Do you have a stable lineup for The Fool?
SATE: That's right. Wade O Brown is my musical director, he plays the keyboards and synthesizers, I also have Tony Rabalao who is my drummer, and I consider both of them as pillars, I also mention Hill who has been playing with me for a long time, and Kirt Godwin who plays the guitar. When I work with musicians both in the studio and on stage my eyes tend to stick to the people I consider to be the best, and once that chemistry is achieved, they will have the feeling that they will be trapped in my music (laughs) CR: Being a Canadian artist, has it been easy or difficult for you to achieve national or international recognition in a rich and diverse scene like that of your country?
SATE: I received a lot of support here in Canada, it is a challenging space as a woman who does rock and roll, and especially there are few of us who do this type of music. You know, I have had to go outside of my country to be able to play, and for the last few years I have been constantly traveling to Europe, especially France, and I have reached places that I never thought to play, but at the same time I have made a lot of friends in places like London, Germany, Switzerland, and one of my last experiences was on a tour in South America where I played in Brazil. CR: That is a pleasant surprise that you have played in Brazil, this is indicative that later you could do other tours in more Latin American countries. Here people appreciate the proposals and artists that are presented and the treatment is very special We know that the new album will come out with CLK Creative Works, for other countries outside of Canada are you contemplating releasing it with labels like Ouch and Cristal Records? SATE: I am not currently working with Crystal, CLK will handle the digital distribution for the rest of the world, and the physical format will be available soon for those who wish to obtain it. CR: You mentioned before that The Fool will be released on CD, have you thought about the beautiful cover art to release it on Vinyl?
SATE: Absolutely YES. And thanks for that curiosity, there are many people who would like to have it in that format, if so, there will be many Tarot cards inside the album, since I was the one who designed the idea for the cover, if the project is given to edit it. on vinyl it will be interesting to know the reaction of people when they appreciate it in their hands. CR: Quick parenthesis: Is the cassette popular again in your country? The idea could work well, that if you have to throw it with your pencil to make the tape roll (laughs) SATE: (laughs) The truth is, I don't have cassettes in my house, but it would be good to see if we also take advantage of releasing the album there, since I have not listened to music on cassettes for a long time (laughs) CR: SATE is for or against from the live streamings, or you have had the chance to play in this format. What do you think about this?
SATE: You know I will not say that I am against, my preference would be in front of people, real people, but I did a live concert and it was great, acting in front of a camera gives you the feeling that the public was aware of a Jam. CR: Do you have plans pending for 2021 or 2022 or is the outlook uncertain for now? SATE: Everything is uncertain for now, we are working on things, there are no plans, but stay tuned, you can find me on all social networks, since I spend much more time on Instagram and on my website since I am blogging, so you will get many more things, and you can join my newsletter and get more, more and more (laughs), we can all interact online and have a good time all there. CR: At the end of this interview, what message do you want to send to those who have read this report with you, and at the same time, wish you the best with The Fool, which is shaping up to be one of the expected releases in 2021, especially in Canada.
SATE: Thanks to you Johonny for this pleasant interview, and to people my message is that you enjoy the new album once it comes out, that you take care of yourself at home, stay safe, and we hope very soon to be able to enjoy it in your country, or in some festival of a good live concert. A hug from Ontario, and again, thank you so much! Special thanks to Sarah Lutz and Natasha Gorey at Looters for making this interview possible, and to SATE for the time allotted on this report.
