TAD MOROSE
TAD MOROSE
A Band That Fights In A Perfect Storm One of the pioneers of Progressive Power Metal appears in our interviews on Conexión Rock Radio, and if you are a fan of these talented musicians, we invite you to sit back and enjoy a pleasant chat with very interesting details for all of you. Our contact this time is to Gävleborg in Sweden, and there we talk with Christer "Krunt" Andersson, Guitar and one of the founders of the band Tad Morose who return to action with their new record production called March of the Obsequious, and which was released in mid-September, thus consolidating a new page in your story. Tad Morose is currently conformed by Christer "Krunt" Andersson and Markus Albertson- Guitars, Peter Morén- Drums, Tommi Karppanen- Bass, and Ronny Hemlin- Vocals. We talked about the pros and cons that as musicians they faced in a confinement that paralyzed the world for more than two years, the concept that the band offers us with this new work, and the ambitious plans that these Swedes have to make with their fans a special celebration where interesting surprises will be revealed for their fans, where their members invites you to fight in the middle of a perfect storm. Conexion Rock Radio: Greetings from Honduras Christer, it´s a great honor to have you in our international spaces celebrating our 13th anniversary, and we will share in this reading with Tad Morose fans the interesting news that you have this year, welcome! Christer Andersson: Good evening from Sweden Johonny, and congratulations on the anniversary, we are also preparing good surprises for our fans all over the world soon. CR: Thank you very much for the well wishes Christer! And how does the band feel about going back to doing concerts and festivals after these two and a half years of hiatus that the pandemic caused all over the world? CA: The truth is that the wait was worth the anxiety, can you imagine playing again after a long time? Our experience after this pandemic time was fun, we were playing in a famous club here in Sweden with two friendly bands Wolf and Sorcerer. Seeing the place full and especially seeing the faces of the people and the smile of each one of them was tremendously special, and of course, we had a great time with the people with a lot of beer and a lot of laughter. CR: In the end, the bad is forgotten Christer, we have news for Tad Morose fans, the band released March of the Obsequious on September 16th through GMR Music Group, album number 10 in their discography.
Do you have expectations or do you expect to see the reactions of the people who can taste it both in physical and digital format? CA: We don't have any kind of expectations, since we are a group of people who make music, we go into a studio to record to invest time and money in a selection of songs. We as musicians who compose lyrics and melodies are happy with the effort that has been invested in this new release. Now we will cross our fingers so that the fans can like this new material, so far so good with all the work plan we have in the promotion and interviews with people from all over the world, based on those reactions people will want to hear these songs live at some point when we announce the tours, and we never really expect anything based on expectations. The big surprise there is that we have had many reviews and they have given a standing ovation to what we have done this year and for us that is a very, very pleasant feeling. CR: People will definitely welcome this new installment that the band offers people all over the world with open arms.
During all these months of confinement, did this situation affect you back home or did you patiently wait for the right moment to go back to the studio and record something new? How has the pandemic influenced the songwriting process for March of the Obsequious? CA: The whole process was very slow due to the circumstances we have been experiencing since the global emergency was decreed in 2020, unfortunately with the restrictions we could no longer meet to rehearse and all the plans we had at that time fell to the ground. We were afraid that someone from us or from our families would get sick from covid, restrictions and isolation in our homes arrived, adding to that that the world did not have a vaccine to deal with this problem, so we all had to get away securely without losing communication, so we decided to record our parts at home via recording interfaces and file sharing, that way we could be mentally busy doing something but not in a hurry. That way things were taken very calmly in the middle of the pandemic and we made the most of the time in our homes to avoid everything being boring (laughs) CR: The important thing is that, as you mentioned without haste, this project could be completed.
We know that Ronny Hemlin (the band's vocalist) was in charge of mixing and recording the album, but he would also have the assistance of Johan Löfgren and Jonas Kjellgren who also participated in the mixing and mastering. What impressions do you have of the work that Johan and Jonas did for this new album? CA: The process has been the same with the previous two albums. The recording and mixing was done at Studio Claustrophobic in Gävle, where the instruments and vocals were recorded, while the mastering was at the Black Lounge in Grangärde. Everyone involved in this very important part of the recording process did a very good job, and both Johan and Jonas have shown that they seek to give the best of each of them in their professional audio knowledge, we prepare very well so that our parts sound perfect in each of the songs, some will say that this album sucks, but it is a production that I liked a lot, so as a band we always seek to explore in doing good and interesting things, for the skeptics this could be a step towards back in our sound, for us as a band we see in this a sample of how to improve in all aspects when it comes to closing, composing and making new songs. CR: It is always normal for people to find divided opinions, but the important thing now is that people can enjoy these songs that over the years will become classics, speaking of this we find strong points here such as March of the Obsequious, Pandemonium, Escape, A Quilt of Shame, Legion and This Perfect Storm.
What stories does the band have with Obsequious? CA: The truth is that we are not looking to do conceptual things or for people to tell us that we are a band that needs to use their imagination (laughs), Peter Morén, our drummer, was in charge of doing the cover art and the interior designs of the album. album, so he has done a good job, and it took him a couple of days to have it ready, and when he presented it we saw that it was very cool what he did at the level of illustration, see the album cover with a skull and details symmetrical makes people curious to know what message we are talking about through the cover, and it will be interesting to see the different interpretations they have when seeing the hidden details that the art has on both CD and vinyl. CR: Another interesting point is that Markus Albertson is rejoining the band again, we know he played with you from 2007 to 2012. How do you feel about having Markus back in Tad Morose's ranks?
CA: It's very nice to have Markus back, he's a great guitarist, and above all a great person, who stands out from the rest for his crazy things (laughs), and it's fun to have him around us, but for the rest and in me particular case was that he has rejoined the band has been one of the most favorable things and especially with this new release. CR: A history of thirty-one years of career, many tours around the world and great albums that are already classics, how do you feel to witness all the evolution that Tad Morose has had so far?
CA: It's been a long journey, when we released our first album we were very young and we aspired to do many things from there forming a band, it was a long struggle where sometimes you were homeless for a while to get a record deal, that It was a bet where you risked everything in the economic aspect, but in the end things went well as expected and as a result you could have money to do your things and be able to live peacefully. Seeing everything we have achieved since the beginning of our career as a band, we had success and international recognition, we achieved that goal of signing a contract, going on tour in several countries and that was our greatest wish that in the end could materialize. Even though we are in the present you take a look at the past and wish you had improved things back then, after many albums and having the friendship of many people this journey in my life as a musician has been satisfying and I couldn't ask for more from the life for all the good experiences that I have shared with my bandmates on each tour that we undertake and for meeting many people in places where we never imagined being able to present ourselves. CR: Many bands have chosen to work temporarily with record labels, others permanently, within Tad Morose's discography this new album is the second with GMR Music Group, the first was Chapter X from 2018. What impressions do you have from the working relationship with GMR in the last years? CA: Working with them is really cool, I mean we're not a big band or anything, nor are they a big record label, but both of us do our best to keep a healthy working relationship as it's really easy to work with. with them, that they answer your calls and emails or that their staff responds to you immediately or that we meet to discuss ideas based on the promotion or launch of videos, they are very professional in what they do. CR: And we expect more surprises from you in the coming years, perhaps a tour of our countries would be interesting as part of being witnesses and being able to enjoy the legacy that you have, by the way, many bands celebrate releases that over time are considered classics, for example, Matters of the Dark turns twenty in 2022 and Leaving the Past Behind reaches its 30th anniversary by 2023, many might think that the band may revisit it in a special set alongside the new album, or release a anniversary edition with bonus material, what do you think about it?
CA: You have touched an important point there, as you said in 2023 it is the 30th anniversary of the first album, and one thing is for sure, we are going to celebrate this in one way or another, and we have discussed this topic with the band previously, There is also the option of re-recording albums with this current lineup, or doing a special set with various musicians who previously played on those albums, it would be interesting to have musicians who have been in the different Morose timelines over the years, I've been socializing the idea with several former members, so this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make history, and the most important thing is that all the musicians I've worked with before have been on very good terms, the option is encourage and be able to do something special. There are many ideas in the air that could work and with the new album circulating in the world, the option opens up to unite several generations of fans in a tour that will have many high points and full of classics. CR: Speaking of various ideas Christer, I don't know if you have had requests from those who are vinyl collectors to be able to release the entire Tad Morose discography in this format? CA: We have many requests from fans who want to have all the albums on vinyl, and we even receive offers from record labels who want to do this project, but there was a very strange situation especially with the label that released the first three albums, I mean to Black Mark Production, one of their main executives, Gloria Forsberg passed away a couple of years ago, and we had planned to do that project, but everything got stuck between lawyers, you know, rights and everything else that bands and labels do at the time of edit or reissue discs. Fortunately things ended well and we have the rights to the discography with Black Mark and we could do whatever we wanted with those albums, so we took up the query to be able to release this material on vinyl and there is a lot of interest in making this happen. The point here is that we do not know an exact date of when that project could start, but seeing that the 30th anniversary of the release of the first album is approaching, I think it would be the perfect time to offer that to the world, launch special editions, extra material or booklets. extended, and I'd love to see all of that happen in 2023. CR: Many young bands from various parts of the world see Tad Morose as an influence, and the message is of gratitude for the music that has served as a role model for them in recent years, what comments do you have about it?
CA: I feel honored that many people tell us that we are an influence in their musical formation, it is very difficult to define those feelings, but when you have those kinds of compliments on several tours or at a meet and greet it makes everything a sensation. very warm. As a band we seek to leave the world our contribution that we have made for years through many albums, and that other people value us for all that history that we have lived makes everything you did in life a pleasant reward. CR: With the album out now, what's next for Tad Morose?
CA: For now we don't have anything planned because the pandemic in recent months has wreaked havoc, and continues to do so in various parts of the world, so we can't risk preparing a tour and suddenly all of that is cancelled. When the restrictions were recently lowered in Sweden, the door was opened for the shows to return, that way the bands could go out and play and that the public can enjoy without fear what is offered at the moment. As part of our tour to promote the new album we will be playing in Stockholm on October 15, from then on we will be announcing new dates on our social networks and possibly by the beginning of 2023 we can properly prepare the celebration of our 30 years. We will see what happens from there and be able to organize a concert schedule for various cities and countries, and we hope that once this is announced that people can join us for these celebrations and make all this work for us. We know that a project like this implies a strong investment, but we are very hopeful that all this will turn out very well for everyone. CR: At the end of this interview, what message do you want to send to the people who have enjoyed this interview, and I want to thank you for the time you have given us at home this day to be able to have this conversation, hoping that it will be the first and not the last one to give continuity to the story that Tad Morose is currently doing with good music
CA: Thank you, Johonny, for your time and interest in organizing this interview with me. It was a pleasure to be able to talk with someone from Honduras. For the fans around the world, thank you for the support you have given us with this new album and we invite you to play it hard at home or at work, either in physical or streaming format, we hope that next year we will be able to organize a tour celebrating the anniversary and being able to play in countries where we have never been, take care since the world is still crazy about this pandemic, have fun with our music, and it will be a dream come true when we visit your city or your country and be able to share with all of you of our history. Sending you all a hug from Sweden! Special thanks to Davide Pulito from The Metalist for his help in carrying out this interview, as well as to Christer Andersson for the time granted back home.
