TEMPERANCE
AS: Muchísimas gracias por tus palabras.
AS: Me encanta mucho el idioma español.

TEMPERANCE
A Diamond That Shines Bright To The World If you like Melodic Heavy Metal with a fresh and powerful proposal, in Conexión Rock Radio we bring you a band that by its own merit has made a remarkable career in its country, and that in the midst of a pandemic offers the world a new chapter in its history, which is a potential candidate for the best releases of this year, and if you meet them here for the first time it will be a very welcome discovery on your sonic radar. On our journey we arrive this time to Milan, Italy, and that is where Alessia Scolletti, Vocalist of the band Temperance welcomes us in her home to share with all of you the news that the band has at the end of this year, especially with The release of his sixth album called Diamanti, which was released on November 19 through Napalm Records, and for his lifelong fans this represents a great new step in his already growing discography. Alessia talks about how the Covid 19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the local scene in her country, without leaving out other places around the world, and how the band has had to survive in the face of these abrupt changes, which is why in This year they had a lot of creative activity, on the one hand the release of their acoustic EP Melodies of Green and Blue released in February of this year, and which would leave the way ready for Diamanti to be born to radiate its brilliance to many people who in their homes they have lived through difficult times. The band is currently conformed by Liuk Abbott- Bass, Marco Pastorino- Guitars and Vocals, Alfonso Mocerino- Drums, Alessia Scolletti- Vocals, and Michele Guaitoli- Keyboards and Vocals. We invite you to make yourself comfortable in this interview, take out sandwiches or your favorite drink, and know first-hand the plans that Temperance has for the next time and the challenge that they have had to overcome thanks to A Diamond That Radiates With Strong Shine to the World Conexión Rock Radio: Alessia greetings from Honduras, we send you our good wishes that everyone is well there in Italy, and it is a pleasure to have you in this special interview and share with our readers in Latin America the news that Temperance has in 2021, welcome! Alessia Scolletti: Hello friends from Latin America! A joy to talk with you today, and ready for a pleasant chat with you Johonny. CR: Thanks Alessia, it is part of our job to inform and present good and interesting proposals like this one. I start this interview to find out how things have been up to this day in Italy. Do you currently continue with restrictions or can you already play in places with a full house?
AS: In the last few months the restrictions have been very strict regarding the realization of concerts, especially in my region, which is close to the borders of Germany, Austria and Slovenia. Currently the problems derived from the Covid pandemic are still latent and that as a band has affected us a lot, but with the passage of time the situation has been changing and we have had the opportunity to play for people for a long time, despite the fact that Everything is now done from tables and seats with distances from each other, it makes everything very different for us, especially for the public that loves rock and metal, it can be difficult to remain seated, even if we see each other's faces. others saying “what” in a somewhat ironic tone without jumping or moshing like they did before. It's partly good to see people at concerts again, but at the same time we're all hungry for concerts, hungry for energetic music, so yeah, it's better to just sit there at the table than at home, that's what I think. CR: Now, let's talk about the news that the band has at the end of this year, and we have a new album, and her name is Diamanti, by the way, sixth work in her career and that was released last Friday, November 19 via Napalm Records, and this is another album that is a potential candidate for the best of 2021, what impressions have you had from fans and critics towards this new work?
AS: Since we released the album the reactions were "oh, Wow!" We have received many positive comments and we are very excited and satisfied about that because we are very proud of our new work and as you said this is the sixth album, and we gave it the necessary effort and attention in the production process to offer something new and cool in these hard times that the world lives. Despite being locked up at home for a long time, we had the opportunity to get together and do something new, and we decided to inject energy and positivity into Diamanti. In the end, all the comments were very positive, we received many reviews from Italy, other European countries and the United States. All of this for us is really cool. CR: Did you consider releasing Diamanti in 2022, or did you see that this was the perfect time to present the album?
AS: We had everything ready to start this year, and especially to promote Diamanti on a tour. Unfortunately with everything that has happened we have had to postpone several dates, for that reason we have our fingers crossed to get back on the road again. If everything turns out positively, we are going to reschedule everything for the beginning of 2022 in several cities in the interior of Italy, and we consider that this was the right time to launch it, although it is also worth mentioning that next year with the restrictions lifted and the people vaccinated there will be many concerts, and that is where many bands will be preparing to offer everything to the public, so the other year in addition to being active on the scene will be chaotic due to the saturation of the artistic agenda. We have an agenda for February and March 2022, our fear is that all this could be postponed again and there the tour would have to be done for Autumn of next year. As I mentioned before, the fear is that there is a saturated schedule and many bands could coincide on the same dates, and that would be a serious problem for everyone. CR: Curiously, in February 2021 Melodies of Green and Blue was released, an EP that compiles several songs by Viridian (released in 2020), what motivated you to make these acoustic versions? Was it the band's idea or fan requests to do this project?
AS: I think the initiative came from both sides. It was a decision to offer something different to the fans, as everyone knows this situation has taken us away from the stage and from the tours, so the best thing was to offer an EP as a gift to the fans. For that reason in this EP we gave a completely different shape to the songs, and this motivated us to re-record several tracks from our previous work like Viridian was. CR: Speaking of the great success that Diamanti will have once people listen to it physically or digitally, do you see the idea of recording more versions of this new album in the future? AS: I tell you that days prior to the launch of Diamanti we had the opportunity to play an acoustic set with five songs, from the moment we performed we enjoyed that moment and it was something incredible for everyone. CR: In Diamanti we find good songs like: Pure Life Unfolds, Diamanti, Black Is My Heart, You Only Live Once, Codebreaker, Let's Get Started, Follow Me, and that is the main reason why many people are waiting to hear these songs at their live shows. Extra point for the elegant cover you guys present.
What is the concept that you offer us with Diamanti, are there different stories? AS: Thank you very much for your words. In general, we do not put anything conceptual behind our work, for Diamanti we present different stories in our songs in which we reflect our emotions in them and they have something in common: to transmit positive vibrations through music, and we do not seek that people are sad, melancholic, or stressed, since that would have a negative impact on their mood. For that reason we inject a lot of energy and positive thoughts into the lyrics into those songs, and that is our priority for the fans and for those who will listen to us for the first time, the truth is that we have never dared to do conceptual things, but we are open in experiment with something like this in the future, and it will be a creative challenge that we will gladly accept. CR: We know that this is the third album with Jacob Hansen in both mixing and mastering. What impressions does the band have of working with him again?
AS: Talking about Jacob is like saying "The Master", he is a great person besides being a sound engineer, he is a 100% professional with the different bands they have worked with years ago. For the band he has been a guide, like a light in the dark to put it in a way, we have worked with him since Of Jupiter and Moons (released in 2018), and he has given a rather sophisticated twist to our sound and we have always stayed amazed at the way he shapes things. Jacob has known how to exploit the capacities of 3 singers within a band and we have felt very good with how far we have come in exploring new things and bringing fresh ideas to our environment, especially due to the sound of the drums that I consider the best of the European scene in recent years. CR: One surprise that appears in the digital version as bonus tracks are the versions of Diamanti in several languages: German, French, Spanish and English. Was it easy or difficult to try something different in your language?
AS: We have had the help of a girl who is a lover of other languages, and for me it was a nice experience to try something different in my mother tongue. I must admit that my English is not very good (laughs) but I try to fulfill and give my best in each challenge, especially in the recording sessions and in the writing process for the lyrics, where I have contributed the lyrics for several songs , but I really love trying something different, and this time we tried a different version of Diamanti and we had a lot of fun, but at the same time we learned a lot because we asked for help for translations into German, French and also Spanish because any of us can speak Spanish and We would like to learn many more things, we must admit that during the recordings we had panic but in the end we had a lot of fun (laughs), Marco loves Spanish a lot. CR: Do you consider releasing an album in Spanish in the future? Many Italian artists who are not necessarily rock or metal like Eros Ramazzotti, NEK, Laura Pausini or Gianluca Grignani have conquered the Latin public with their productions. In the case of Temperance it could be a good opportunity to do an experiment of this type, what do you think about it? AS: I really love the Spanish language. Actually, there are many similarities to the Italian language that make it very peculiar. For example, on the Melodies of Green and Blue EP there is the track My Demons Can't Sleep, in the chorus where we say "El Diablo No Puede Descansar", and we decided to do that part in Spanish, and it was a fun experience to do that. CR: Your debut was for Of Jupiter and Moons, and many consider that both you and Michele Guaitoli have taken things to a new level in the sound of the band. How do you feel about being a part of Temperance now with 3 albums and a recorded EP?
AS: I believe that with this new line-up we reach new levels as you say, both Marco, Michele and I have decided to give the band a new direction, since from the beginning there were limitations and we decided to try a solution mixing different notes with three vocalists. from clean, harsh, choirs and gospel. The previous singer had the limitation of keeping those notes, and it was a matter of solving those changes by bringing in a lyrical soprano singer and a male singer, so things took a different balance since then. And currently the band has three vocalists with different voice styles and we combine all of that to enrich that sound and take it one step further. And that has been the result of a joint effort that has taken years, but in the end we are very satisfied with what we have obtained so far. CR: From the moment that we appreciate the songs as you mentioned recently, Alessia gives us the feeling of hearing that very successful formula of “beauty and the beast” between clean and harsh vocals that remind us of such exemplary bands as Epica, and that is All the more reason for people to notice the musical richness that Temperance currently offers with Diamanti. AS: Thank you so much for the compliment and I really appreciate that comparison with a great band like Epica. You are right at that point, there are bands where the balance is established in two vocalists, so people can relate that point to us, one of those examples is Mayan, it is a band that has a number of talented voices from various countries in Europe. On the other hand, we are a band made up of three singers of different influences and styles who have a lot of variety from each other, and that is where that convergence surpasses any limit for the simple reason that we are eclectic since we really want to try different things. in each album and each work has its character and personality which we capture in our sound. As musicians we are surprised by the new things we have done, and that is where the true spirit of Temperance lies both collectively and individually. CR: With Diamanti it's the second release with Napalm Records. How do you guys feel about being part of a great label like this?
AS: Working with Napalm is a majestic experience that injects us with enthusiasm as a band, and at the same time we consider it a challenge due to the fact that it is the home of the best metal bands, especially of the symphonic genre, for that reason we have had to prepare in a humble way to exceed expectations as there are many artists who have vast experience within their musical catalog, and we had to follow our roots and our instincts to move forward with the career that we are writing to this day. And I must say that with a lot of effort we have reached the same level as many internationally famous bands. It has been a difficult road but we are very happy to get to this point to learn new things every day. The working atmosphere inside the label is very stimulating, with a very professional team due to the fact that they are very organized people with the agendas and the treatment they have with all the artists, and especially with those media from around the world. where the interviews are coordinated, for example in your case Johonny that we are conducting this conversation thousands of kilometers from each other, and I consider I not only speak for my band, but for all those who are at Napalm Records that their staff does a work without rest, and that´s to applaud and thank. CR: Since the pandemic began in early 2020, it has generated changes that would negatively impact bands, festivals and especially fans. The record industry worldwide has had to look for options to survive the changes, and as you know many bands have released great albums. I want to know your point of view if these changes that we are currently experiencing are positive or negative for the bands?
On the other hand, fear is a factor that is still latent in those who want to go to concerts, but are in fear of being re-infected. AS: I agree with you because that was noticed months ago when restrictions began to be lifted in some places with limited capacity. One of the main reasons for concert cancellations and tour rescheduling is that there is a gap in which people are afraid of wanting to go to a concert and that it will suddenly be canceled, and that is understood in them because it represents a loss of time and money thanks to the Covid that has left very negative consequences on an artistic level. It is a great shame that people wait at the last minute to be able to buy tickets for the reason of wanting to be there without an event being canceled. Another reason is that they cancel an event when there are not enough ticket sales, so this is all a combination of two elements together and that generates a consequence like a chain reaction. It's very unfortunate to put it that way, but we are dealing with a problem that is real for bands and audiences. CR: With this new album already on the streets, do you intend to present it via streaming, or do you think that it is best to present it face to face with the fans?
AS: We played streaming once and it was really weird. We are one of the bands that prefer to see people around us singing in the fence section, but on the other hand we have broken the ice in knowing that there are people from various parts of the world who follow us through a screen and leave us messages sending us spirits, like being people from the United States, Australia or Italy, despite not having people around us, only the sound and streaming technicians, it was a nice thing to know that people are watching us. We really miss live concerts with real people, we miss our fans, their screams, their energy, and that's where you can experience a real first-person experience. CR: Does Temperance currently have dates scheduled for the remainder of 2021 or early 2022 or will they focus exclusively on promoting Diamanti? AS: For now we have nothing clear about concerts in 2021 since we have finished our schedule, but we have 3 concerts and those would be the only ones that we are going to perform throughout 2022 and we will begin our tour in Italy for the month of February, then we will be touring several countries in Europe for the end of March and the beginning of April. CR: Alessia, at the end of this interview, what message do you want to send to our readers this time, and I want to thank you for the time you have given us in this conversation and from now on the best successes with Diamanti, they deserve it!
AS: Thank you very much Johonny for having me here and sent a greeting to the readers and audience of Conexion Rock Radio in Honduras, and we hope in the future if the opportunity is given to be able to visit these countries, and if so, it would be our first time, We want to meet new fans there and hopefully when all this becomes normal we will be able to organize tours in Latin America. Special thanks to Federico Solari from Soundblast Media for his help in making this interview possible, and to Alessia for the time granted on this occasion.
