MJ: Empecé Lethal Dose en 1985, lanzamos algunos álbumes “Surprise Attack” (1989) y “Back With A Vengeance” (EP 1991).
¿Ciclo completado o problemas internos?

Terraphobia was formed in 1993 by releasing a demo in the same year, and after several EPs they released their first album called Enemy Within ... With this he would call the attention of Steve Rowe to be summoned to their ranks, thus leaving him with experience several releases and interesting tours on several continents. Next, we share this interesting conversation with Mike, and learn interesting details about this soldier who returns to action with a lethal dose of musical ammunition. Conexión Rock Radio: Mike, greetings from Honduras, thank you for responding to our interview request for Conexion Rock Radio, we send our good wishes to you and your family that are well at home, and it is an honor to speak with you and share with our Readers of the next news that Terraphobia has for its fans in this 2021, welcome! Michael Jelinic: Greetings from Australia Johonny, thanks for the interest in talking with you and your readers. CR: We know that you had several plans for this 2020 and everything was suddenly canceled.
How are things there in Australia with the Coronavirus issue? MJ: These are crazy times, we just finished our second confinement here in Victoria (Australia). And the truth is, I don't think there are many artists performing in these circumstances. I have a cover band that I do to have fun with my son, we canceled all our shows for the year, and it was in March the last time we played. So for now there is no news of places to do concerts and it only remains to wait for everything to normalize. CR: What is the current situation of the band, is this Terraphobia inactive or is it in the process of reforming with new musicians? What details can you share with us about it? Terraphobia has been a studio project for a while now, I still intend to put together a live lineup. I would love to tour and play for fans in various places. CR: Many fans wonder if you have plans to record new material soon. A new Terraphobia album is coming out. MJ: I am in the creative process of shaping the songs and have finished writing all the riffs, drum parts and song structures that I hope to finish soon. Then I will write all the lyrics and start recording next year, it will be in a similar vein to the Evilution album. If all goes well, the new album will be out in late 2021. CR: One of your first projects was Lethal Dose, how were your beginnings with this band for those who want to know your trajectory in this report?
MJ: I started Lethal Dose in 1985, we released some albums "Surprise Attack" (1989) and "Back With A Vengeance" (EP 1991). "Surprise Attack" was released on vinyl earlier this year. In 1993 Lethal Dose was starting to take a heavier direction and after several line-up changes we changed the name to Terraphobia. CR: When you closed your page on Lethal Dose and founded Terraphobia, how was your transition from making lyrics that spoke of violence and hatred and then to Christianity? Was there an event in your life that had a strong impact on you to make that change? MJ: In Lethal Dose and the early days of Terraphobia, the lyrics were written by other members of the band. Many things changed when Terraphobia became a solo project and then I was forced to write the lyrics. Having been raised as a Christian, I think part of my upbringing started to come through the lyrics and undoubtedly being in Mortification also had a huge impact on the lyrics on the Evilution album. CR: One of the most important moments as a musician was being part of Mortification, your debut was for the 2002 album Relentless, where you would contribute talent to various albums and tours.
How was your entry into the band and the experience of working with Steve Rowe all those years? MJ: Mortification had just finished a world tour in 2001, then Lincoln (Bowen who was with the band from 1996-2001 and then would stay permanently from 2011) had just quit, so they were looking for a new guitarist. Steve Ravic (Metal Warriors, Majestic Film) recommended me for the guitar position, who was editing Mortification's DVD Conquer the World at the time. Steve Rowe called me and we had a long talk and they invited me to audition. At the audition for the first song, everything seemed to fit together, it felt like we had been playing together for years. After the audition, Steve told me "you have the job and we have a concert next weekend." So it was a very busy week for me to learn all the songs on the set. Overall, it was a great experience to be in Mortification not only because of the tours, but also because of the friendship and professional attitude of the band. Steve and I remain great friends to this day. CR: There are many Mortification fans around the world (including myself there) who were concerned about Steve's health when he announced that he was battling leukemia despite continuing to release albums in the following years, and that he eventually relapsed. that involved treatment.
Being your part of the band in those years, how has it been for you to witness the struggle that Steve has to this day with his illness? MJ: I joined Mortification after Steve had already been through leukemia, the disease left some lasting health problems, he was prone to infections, and he walked with the help of a cane. I remember he was in my studio recording vocals for the Erasing the Goblin album and he ended up getting sick with a high fever, I had to take him to the hospital. On the way to the hospital he kept making jokes about things, that's the way it is, he didn't complain about his struggles, he was always positive, you couldn't help but be inspired by him. CR: 2009 comes with The Evil Addiction Destroying Machine, this was your last album with the band, many wonder what motivated you to leave Morti?
Cycle completed or internal problems? MJ: It was a shock when I found out that I was no longer in Mortification, after that I never spoke to Steve for over a year. One day his wife came up to me and arranged for Steve and I to meet up and work things out. Everything was forgiven, we put it down to a misunderstanding, to this day we remain very good friends. Steve and his wife come and stay with my family often. CR: After you left the band you decided to continue with Terraphobia, releasing Evilution, Terrafication: The Mort Years, and a 2018 single from the O Come All Ye Faithful version.
How has it been for you to reactivate Terraphobia after years of inactivity? MJ: I was still in Mortification when Evilution was released, Mort was looking for a new drummer at the time, Steve suggested it would be a good time for both of us to do our own solo projects. Steve did the Wonrowe Vision project and Steve suggested that he make a Terraphobia album. I think it's difficult for any band after many years of inactivity, you just have to reboot, make new music, and get back out there. CR: What is your point of view on the rock and metal scene in your country, has it been easy or difficult for Terraphobia to have a deserved international recognition despite having played for several years in a great band like Mortification? Comments ... MJ: With a population of 25 million, the music scene here in Australia has always been a bit isolated. Metal has always been in the underground, most people in Australia haven't even heard of Mortification or Terraphobia. If it's not played on radio or television, people don't seem to care, I guess it's the same in most countries. CR: If you had to choose renowned musicians for a future line-up or a special project, what names could you mention, for example?
MJ: That is a difficult question, there are so many musicians who have influenced me, I guess this would not be a bad training. Steve Vai, Paul McCartney, Rob Halford and Daniel Erlandsson. CR: If the situation continues with this pandemic, what do you think about the future of the scene around the world, reinventing yourself or fighting to the end? MJ: I think you should always keep reinventing yourself, the days when you would play on a show, get noticed and get a record deal, are long gone. These days you need to learn how to do a lot of things for yourself, like recording, promoting yourself, etc. There are a lot of bands doing live broadcasts, it's not the same as playing live, but it's better than just giving up and doing nothing. absolutely. CR: Once this emergency is over and you have the new material ready, do you have plans to tour outside Australia or is the outlook uncertain for Terraphobia as long as a cure is not found and everything will resume as normal? MJ: When the new album is released, I would like to put together a line-up to do several live concerts and do some tours and hopefully bring Terraphobia to South America and other countries that would like us to visit them. CR: Michael, what message do you want to send to those who have read us in this special interview?
And I want to thank you for your time in making this pleasant conversation for our readers on Conexion Rock Radio who follow us around the world? MJ: Stay strong, take care of each other, respect and support each other. Don't lose faith that we will get through this. Hope to see you on tour in the future. CR: Thanks for your time! We look forward to hearing interesting news from the band soon, and it will always be an honor for us to be able to chat with you again. Many blessings and may you have a perfect day back home! MJ: Thanks Johonny. God bless you! Special thanks to Michael Jelinic for the time allotted in this pleasant conversation.
