THE DEAD DAISIES

THE DEAD DAISIES
A History Written On Holy Ground Ladies and gentlemen, without a doubt we are facing one of the great musical releases in this pandemic 2021, and despite the fact that there are no tours or concerts, we can also enjoy an injection of fresh air that brings a dose of energy and joy to those who listen to his proposal from different parts of the world. For this and many more reasons, Conexión Rock Radio presents in its international interviews a band that will set a world trend with a new work in its history and that is conquering new fans on several continents. Our new conversation takes place in Los Angeles, California, and that is where Doug Aldrich, Guitarist of the band The Dead Daisies, happily welcomes us to his home to share with all of you the great moment that the band lives with their new work called Holy Ground, which was released at the end of January via Steamhammer, thus generating positive reactions from critics and fans, and evidencing the excellent chemistry that these musicians had in the studio for this interesting result. Aldrich, who is the band's guitarist since their 2016 album Make Some Noise, tells us about the experience of recording a new page in these strange circumstances, about the concept they offer us with Holy Ground, the arrival of Glenn Hughes as Bass and Vocals, and the recent incorporation of Tommy Clufetos as a new Drummer who complements the lineup with David Lowy on Guitar. Without further ado, enjoy this pleasant conversation with Doug, who invites us to witness A History Written On Holy Ground Conexión Rock Radio: Doug, good afternoon! Johonny González from Conexion Rock Radio from Honduras, Central America greets you. I send you my good wishes that everything is well there at home, and it is an honor to be able to share with our readers around the world the important news that The Dead Daisies have in this 2021, welcome! Doug Aldrich: Thanks Johonny, the same wishes from Los Angeles and here ready for a pleasant chat with the people who follow you on your radio station. CR: I start my report with you in congratulating the band for their new album called Holy Ground, released at the end of January via Steamhammer, by the way 5th work in their history.
How do you feel about the excellent reception that critics and fans have given Holy Ground? DA: All this has been great, we have been really very grateful and I can´t ask for a better reception so happy that the album has finally come out, this work is dedicated for our fans with some energy, happiness, power and everything you know, and that's what we want to offer this year. CR: Due to the current situation in the world with the pandemic, the band cannot go on tour, but the answer is this album that for many will be a winner this year. How do you feel as a band releasing Holy Ground in these strange circumstances? DA: It's a completely different situation, it's crazy, everything now depends on the behavior of the pandemic and everything that has happened since then. We had to record the album in an atypical situation, and it was recorded and ready for last year, but since we couldn't release at the time, and when the situation got complicated we couldn't do a tour last year, we just wanted to wait until everything normalize and be able to get closer to people in our live shows. So for now we have dates for later this summer. We hope that all Works well, but if it doesn't work in time, maybe we'll do it in the fall. We will definitely be going all over the world with this album and like I said, you need new music to listen to and get excited about, and you know it, so I hope this album will do it for everyone at home. CR: This new album marks important changes in the history of The Dead Daisies, Glenn Hughes is the voice and bass for the recording of this album.
What impressions does the rest of the band have of these positive changes? By the way, a very recognized person worldwide DA: You're very right, for us Glenn is like a national treasure, and we had to do something different when he came to the band, and writing a sound that is new to The Dead Daisies was very special, and we wrote incredible lyrics on the album. For that part we are very excited and as a collective band we are very happy that he is with us. CR: Holy Ground is for many the heaviest album of his career, the most dynamic on his lineup and it contains songs that will be true anthems: Unspoken, Holy Ground (Shake the Memory), Bustle and Flow, 30 Days in the Hole by Humble Pie, Come Alive, will be your favorite songs in your live shows.
Do we want to know the concept that the band offers in this new album and the experience of working with Ben Grosse as a producer? DA: Well we have where we can spend and it was perfect for the band really. We needed someone to make a fresh start with a new sound that the band was creating and Ben was the perfect person to do that, and it just feels great and we went to the south of France where we recorded during November and December 2019 and they made us A beautiful area to work and basically we lived in the studio where we went directly to have breakfast and then to record, I can define that the process in that place was perfect. About the concept behind the album there are several stories, but they all fit. I mean, all the songs are written and as Glenn said they talk about the condition of nature and the human experience, and musically we have covered different areas, but everything fits into the lyrics, and as he said in the process it is best to unite everything in this work. CR: This year marks the return of Drummer Tommy Clufetos, who recently played with Ozzy and Black Sabbath and who played with the band for years.
How do you feel about having Tommy playing back in The Dead Daisies? DA: Super excited. I've never played with Tommy before, but I've seen him play live and he's brilliant and he says he's going to make this work a heavier sound, I mean he's like a power station, and with Glenn's base he's going to be special experience on tours. CR: With the current situation in the world, you will do a streaming live show or have dates scheduled for this year ... of course, if the pandemic allows it ...
DA: We are contemplating to see if the next few months are favorable for us on a tour, if not everything would be done in the fall. But we might consider doing a live broadcast, but I want to say that right now we have high hopes of touring live and we want to start touring this year. CR: Seeing all these trends that bands have been doing to keep in touch with fans. Do you agree to do this type of virtual concert or do you see that the absence of the public is a factor to wait and do tours? DA: That's interesting, I mean, yes, I agree with you, there is nothing like being in a live show, you feel the power of all those things, but it is at the same time that the band is not available to tour, then maybe it's a good idea to do it. We will wait and see what happens this year. We have plans in the coming months, and from there the situation will become clear for us if it is favorable or not. CR: A quick parenthesis, we know that you as a band represent a collective that in the past have worked with big names in the rock and metal scene around the world. Many look at The Dead Daisies as a "Supergroup" or do you consider that this label has been erased over the years?
DA: I would say that we have already kicked that label, I mean, I think we are a group of people who are friends, and we have great respect for each other. Everyone knows that we take our work very seriously and we want to be the best we can both individually and collectively, but when we get together we are just four or five normal people who enjoy doing what we do just by doing: rock music. CR: Doug, what is the message that you want to send to the people who have enjoyed this special report and thank you for your time in chatting for Rock Radio Connection? Definitely The Dead Daisies have a winner in Holy Ground in this 2021
DA: Thank you for your comment, it's great, and for us we really hope to enjoy a concert again, we are all excited about this album and we want to tell the fans that we love them, that we can't wait to see them again, that we are all together , and keep in touch with us via social media, and everyone stay healthy and we'll get back together, we'll be back to rock as soon as we can this year! CR: Doug, thanks for your time. Also, our friends at Steamhammer and Cat Swinton for their help in making this interview with you possible. We look forward to chatting again in the future and enjoying another glorious chapter in The Dead Daisies story! I wish you an excellent afternoon at home! They deserve this success! DG: Thank you Johonny, we send our best wishes to our fans in Latin America and an honor to have talked with you this day! Special thanks to Sara Kezzme, Cat Swinton for his help in making this interview possible, and to Doug Aldrich for the time allotted.
