We know that the band was born in Rome in 2010, and has many changes in their lineup until the release of Union Reloaded in 2019. How was the idea of making a band that combines Hard rock and alternative Metal come up, and why the name and influences? PC: The Great Divide was formed in 2011 when I (Pier Paolo Cianca - guitar), along with Vladimiro Melchiorre (drums), Alessio Ripani (bass) and Italian-American singer-songwriter Gino Maradè started playing together in a garage turned into a rehearsal, recording room and studio on the southern outskirts of Rome. We spent two first prolific and intense years in which we wrote about ten songs and He recorded a five-piece demo before Gino Maradé had to return to New York in 2013. At that point, after a pause to reorganize, we decided to change line-up: Mauro Pala (Avekey and Dr. Hyde) joined the band as a solo voice, and a longtime friend and mentor Gabriele Sorrentino (Hyperdrive) finally makes its official entry. The lineup is consolidated and ready to record their first album UNION RELOADED. About influences, I can tell you that we are five people with different musical preferences, I can think of Alice In Chains, Velvet Revolver, Queen, Black Sabbath, Cream, Michael Jackson, Hideous Divinity, Symphony X, Tool, Bjork, Devin Townsend, Chopin and plus ... And ... about the name ... We like how it sounds! CR: With the release of the debut album, are you satisfied with everything done so far?
PC: Yes, we are proud of ourselves. We play in many different places in Europe and Italy, receiving good words and meeting good people. CR: What is your point of view on the local rock and metal scene in Rome? Has it been easy or difficult for the band to obtain national or international recognition? PC: The situation in Italy, Rome in particular, is not really good, these are difficult times for hard rock. However, I must say that there are a number of excellent bands in the area and it is good to go out for a good live rock show. It's always difficult to get attention when you play this genre, but we work hard every day, happy when we discover that people like you listen to our music. CR: In these years, has the band had any experience playing outside of Italy?
If the answer is yes: how do you feel about playing for new audiences from other countries? PC: Yes sure! We were on tour in Europe a couple of years ago. It was a wonderful experience that we hope to redo very soon. Playing for those guys was fantastic and we were excited to be there. CR: Currently, platforms like Kickstarter and Crowfunding that are of great help for the bands to carry out special projects such as videos, special releases (vinyl or box sets), production for albums and other ideas. Is the band for or against them doing special projects with these platforms? PC: We believe that anything that can help music and musicians is positive. Many bands have good ideas, but few resources to implement them, we have never talked about it in the band, but I think it is a valid help. Never say Never... CR: Fans always give various ideas to bands on their social networks, one of them is to record an album, an EP or live bonus tracks. What do you think of this for the sound universe of The Great Divide? It would be interesting a live work for his discography, comments ... PC: We really love live or studio / live works, we made one!
