TIGGUO COBAUC

TIGGUO COBAUC
Survivors of a New World Collision If you are a lover of Stoner, Doom and powerful Sludge Metal, we invite you to join us in the following interview that Conexión Rock Radio offers you in celebration of its 13th anniversary, and for those who are looking for fresh proposals, this is undoubtedly a perfect recommendation for all of you. Our contact is to Nottingham, United Kingdom, place of origin of the band Tigguo Cobauc, who present themselves to the world with their debut album called Trial By Combat, which was released at the beginning of this year, and after a long and extensive campaign of concerts in several cities in England have achieved recognition within the local scene, and these musicians aspire to be able to reach places with this work that they have never been able to reach in their lives, and in this way conquer new audiences around the world. Renato Ramos- Bass and Vocals, Luis Barreto- Drums, and Luca Martello- Guitars, are our guests in this space where we share their impressions about the reception this album has had so far and how through strategic agreements its debut It has been published in several countries, thus leaving the door open so that at any time they can start promotional tours and thus be able to experience outside their country. Tigguo Cobauc is formed as a result of the concern that these three musicians have in doing something new, stable and powerful, since this new musical incarnation was conceived in the midst of a pandemic, and there they will learn the details within the production process of this debut, the pros and cons that as musicians they had to face during all this time in their homes due to confinement, the first reactions of the people, and how their struggle has borne fruit to consider themselves as Survivors of a New World Collision. Conexion Rock Radio: Friends, thank you for the time you give us back home, and it is an honor to have you here in this conversation where we will share with our readers the history and immediate plans that Tigguo Cobauc has in 2022, welcome! Renato Ramos: Hi Johonny, thanks for your interest in talking with us and here we are ready for a pleasant chat. Luis Barreto: Like Renato, we are very grateful to expose our proposal to other countries around the world. Luca Martello: Good afternoon from here, Johonny, a joy to talk to someone from so far away, and thank you very much for including us in your interviews. CR: On the contrary, thank you for accepting our invitation, I start my conversation with the three of you to know how you have felt with the general reception that you have given to your first album called Trial By Combat, which came out earlier this year through Spectral Hound Records, what impressions have you had now that things are beginning to normalize there in England?
Luca Martello: For us this has been a long journey from when we started the recording process to making the release date official, as you mentioned it was at the beginning of the year, in January to be precise and we were very committed to the mixing process and mastering to offer some quality to people, in the same way we had a lot of activity with various concerts in various cities, and in England the release date was in May, in addition the album has been released in Brazil through Xaninho Records, reason why which we will tour in October, and was also released in Indonesia in August. This effort was released in CD format on Cassette, and we have many plans to make in the future with the album already circulating in various places. CR: This is very interesting, now that the Cassete is back, do you also have a vinyl edition in the future?
Luca Martello: Many people have asked us if we are going to release it in that format, we love being able to release it on vinyl, we are investigating places where they offer us the best offers to do a limited run, and we will see what happens later if we can offer a extra option to fans. Renato Ramos: With everything that is happening in the band, what has been decided is to focus first on the presentations and the tours that we will do outside of England, the next move will be to make new songs that will appear on the second album, possibly it will come out on the end of the year or the beginning of 2023, the idea is to take a step forward in terms of improving the production of the new material in relation to the one that we have recently released, we are looking for a better sound and taking things to another level, it will be interesting to push ourselves as musicians and give our best in the studio once we record the demos and the next step would be to enter the studio to do something new, heavy and fresh for the people, one thing is for sure, that on our tour of Brazil we will possibly be sharing some surprises and we are waiting to see what reactions we get from people once they listen to us. Luis Barreto: We have high expectations with the new material that we are currently working on, we have three songs in the process of the new project, of which one is already finished, both in terms of lyrics and arrangements. We previously presented that song here some time ago and it has left a good impression on people, we hope that with the new album once it is released, we can reach many more places around the world. CR: With everything that has happened in these two and a half years of pause due to the pandemic, the music industry (bands, promoters and festivals) experienced perhaps the greatest challenge in its history, do you consider that this has been overcome or do you think that things can change from one moment to another?
Renato Ramos: Johonny, despite the fact that we all live in difficult times, for many bands this time of confinement helped us to be able to make better compositions, in addition to that we have the recording tools that made things easier, all this together with the internet that has allowed us to communicate with the rest of my bandmates, and to be able to do interviews like the one we are doing now with you. Despite the fact that the world stopped due to the pandemic, from our homes through the internet many groups have been able to release albums that in the midst of this situation were acclaimed by people, and one of those examples is our first album. In my point of view and I expose it as part of the band, we as musicians did not seek profits, we do not intend to compete against big bands that have many advantages in terms of marketing, big labels and sales that can ensure their savings, and there are artists that they are millionaires and that in the midst of a pandemic they have been calm in their own way and with enough time to do something without haste. In our case we worked and we have paid for the recording of this album out of our savings, so not everything was bad for us, since we had everything ready while things returned to normality and in this way we could play live again, which we have missed doing in a long time, and when the restrictions eased and the shows came back that was our signal to get back to doing what we love: playing for people in various cities around England. CR: Luca, did this situation affect you at home or did you patiently wait for the right moment to offer something new?
How has the pandemic influenced the writing of the new album within the Tigguo Cobauc camp? Luca Martello: I remember when we were playing Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the first lockdown in the entire United Kingdom due to the emergency that had been decreed that same night, and the one most affected by that situation was Luis, and the truth is that nobody expected him. confinement that we were going to face in the coming months, and for that reason we were inspired by his speech to be the intro of one of our songs such as New World Collision. Everyone was very scared, except Renato who works in the national health system, he saw that there was a great movement when all this started, especially in the hospitals where we all know the incidents that have happened since then. As I told you before, all of this was terrifying, despite the restrictions and the fact that few could work in the midst of the emergency, we decided that everyone would have their recording studios at home, so it would be easier to produce our parts and send them by file through the internet, the guitars and basses were recorded through interface programs, while the drums used in the process were electric, we all had enough time to dedicate ourselves to completing the recordings of the album without compromising the integrity of our families, it was a process complex but with the passage of time it became easy. CR: In this work there are very notable points such as Demolished Blood, Ravaging the Innocents, New World Collision or the powerful Endless Suffering, and the production is an extra where all the instruments and voices have a perfect balance in the final mix.
What impressions do you have of the work that Chris Taylor did as a producer? Renato Ramos: Chris is a friend of the band and has his musical projects. The best option once everything was ready was to go to his studio which was located in Manchester, and he has worked with other artists from the area in his studio, and the mixing mastering process for our debut album was satisfactory. for all. We consider him as the fourth member of the band and we have a friendship of many years, without a doubt he was an important part to be able to make the recording in his studio, I remember that Luca had to take all his equipment there to test different sounds, he is a person very nice and offered us a fair price to do the job, which made a big difference. We had enough time to leave everything calibrated and cover our work in the stipulated time, we experimented with different microphones, the battery had a set of 20 microphones so that the recording flowed smoothly, the guitars and basses we tested through real and digital cabinets. . When you listen with your headphones you notice the very natural sound of all the instruments, as if you had the feeling that your head was inside one of those amplifiers, the truth was it was worth the investment of time and money to be able to do this, and we looked at Chris as an element that has been useful in our cause, who is always open to suggestions or who can give us advice if this sounds good, improve it, or repeat a shot. At the moment that the final compression of the mix began, we were very delighted by his work, and after a long time we are offering this first album that is the product of many hours of session and that is the final result of months of confinement in the pandemic. . Luca Martello: The whole process was totally less stressful, very natural without effects or overproduction, where we all committed ourselves to contributing our parts to achieve very good songs, and Chris noticed that in us, that we loved what we did, and the told us that once mixed that album had that power to generate a strong energy for concerts, and when the person listens to it from beginning to end it will guarantee that, a great impression with an incredible sound. Luis Barreto: His work in the studio made a big difference to us, and if we were asked if we wanted to work with Chris again for the next album, the answer would be a resounding YES, it was a sure bet that the album would 99% sound like a organic and natural way due to the effort we put into the studio, the remaining percentage was from the experience of how we handled our equipment, the pedalboards, effects processors and amplifiers, and as Renato said, we had to try several brands, including the Amplifiers Orange to know the perfect sound that was sought in the guitar part in order to find a darker, denser and heavier sound, and being honest how it sounded in the studio we wanted to project that live in a natural way for the simple reason that energy will be enjoyed by the people in our presentations. CR: The cover is the work of Brazilian Alcides Burn, who has worked with several bands on the scene in that country.
How was the contact between the band and Alcides for this collaboration? Did he have the cover already prepared for the moment or was it an idea of both parties? Luca Martello: When we were very advanced in the production phase of the album we needed a design for the album cover, people from the Brazilian label Xaninho recommended us one of their friends who is a cover designer, and we contacted him to explain about it. our band and the proposal we were making with the album so that he could get ideas. A few weeks passed and Alcides sent us the design of the cover, we were fascinated by the details, and we all agreed that this would be the cover of our first album, no changes needed to be made. He was able to grasp at the first idea what we were looking for, and that is the result of what we have now and what we are presenting to people now through our music. CR: An Italian, a Portuguese and a Venezuelan, what a combination of talents and nationalities has the DNA of the band. We know that prior to the formation of Tigguo, you previously ventured into other bands such as Karnak Seti and Even Vast, and this proposal would be born in the middle of a pandemic, how did the idea of making a band as interesting as this come about? And why the name?
Renato Ramos: It was my initiative; in our previous projects we were more focused on Doom and Stoner and we had to separate not because of musical orientations but because of the distance factor because I live in Nottingham and the rest in Manchester. From that moment I decided together with Luis and Luca to do something different that far from being a temporary project that was a full time band, we decided to refresh the sound of Doom with other things to do something more powerful in our sound and mix bands from the old school like Celtic Frost, Venom, Motorhead and other bands that stood out in the early 80's and then the sound of Carcass, Death, Bathory and Pantera were the basics for us in terms of influences, although in our beginnings we played Death and Black metal, over time we decided to change our sound, we had a drummer before but he was not with us much, and suddenly Luis appeared and we invited him to be part of the band, everyone would think that we would play slow and too slow when in reality we incorporated elements of blast beats to make the songs more dynamic (laughs), from then on with a sound that would identify us as a band it would be born from that way Tigguo Cobauc, by the way, the name of the band refers to a city that was located in the center of England north of Leicester. King Charles I raised his banner here in 1642, marking the start of the English Civil War. The city was historically a center for textile, lace, and hosiery manufacturing. CR: What impressions have you had of people listening to your songs and even more so that the restrictions have been relaxed in several cities in the United Kingdom?
Luca Martello: We have had very good comments from people who have been able to appreciate our music, especially from those who listen to us for the first time and tell us that our proposal is very compact with a powerful sound, with a perfectly balanced chemistry when playing our songs. songs in the show, and that is evident in the professionalism that we do both when playing our instruments and the people who support us in the backline so that everything can sound great from start to finish. Although we want things to go well, we always have the factor of being nervous minutes before starting, plus they tell us that the band sounds very natural without the need to use effects, so much so that they compare us that we sound the same in the studio as in concert. For that reason, many people join our way, and in this way many people appreciate what we do as musicians. CR: In recent years have you had the opportunity to play at festivals outside the UK? Many consider that this new band is a kind of consecration of his career, what do you think of this? Renato Ramos: The truth is that with this project, which is now a reality, and after having previous experiences with our respective bands, we aspire to be able to play in big festivals or go on tours, since we have the potential to be able to reach more people, even though we don't we have gone out of the country we are expecting promoters to notice us and be able to promote something new in their cities, just as we can play in front of 10, 100 or 1000 people we always give our best on stage, we are fully expecting to be able to conquer new audiences and part of those plans are now focused on Brazil, and once that goal has been achieved, we can say with all property that we are ready to hit the road and have a coexistence with fans from other countries. CR: Currently the album has been released for Latin America through the Brazilian label Xaninho, how do you feel that the sound and proposal is beginning to be heard in other countries?
Luca Martello: This album in fact makes its debut in the Xaninho label catalogue, and we see this move as the perfect opportunity to have exposure in several countries both in South America and in the rest of the continent, in addition to the facilities they provide us to promote and distributing the album in physical format makes everything easier for both sides (the band and the label) without leaving out the online and FM radios, which are also platforms where we can reach people and arouse their curiosity to know who sings those songs, and we are very grateful to their management and staff for the opportunity they give us to make ourselves known outside of England. CR: What's next for Tigguo Cobauc besides possible tours, people will already be thinking about new material on the way, any details that they can share with us?
Renato Ramos: Before revealing our plans, Johnny I will tell you that as a band we are very happy that Luis belongs to the extensive list of artists that the Soultone brand will support in his drum set, and I know that for him it is a consecration as musician that a very important brand like this has noticed his talents. For now, we are focusing on playing more places closer to our area, and we look forward to touring outside the country and writing our story far from home. CR: Friends, what message do you want to send at the end of this report to all the people who have read this interview, and thanks to the three of you for the time you gave us there at home, it has been an honor, and of course, we hope to talk again in the future.
Tigguo Cobauc: On behalf of all of us, we thank you, Johonny, for your interest in the band, for taking the time to organize this interview and for listening to our music. On the contrary, it has been a pleasure to talk with someone from far away, and we thank the people who will give us their time to get to know us and support us from now on. We hope that once all this is normalized, we can organize more tours in Latin America, and if it is possible to visit several countries in Central America, have a great time with all of you and that you enjoy what the band will be preparing soon. Special thanks to Davide Pulito from The Metalist for his help in carrying out this interview, as well as to the members of Tigguo Cobauc for the time granted there at home.
