EPICA
CR: Aquí hay grandes canciones como Abyss of Time, Seal of Soloman, Code of Life, Kingdom of Heaven Part 3, The Skeleton Key y Omega - Sovereign of the Sun Spheres.

EPICA
A Spiritual Journey Through The Labyrinth 2021 will be an interesting year where we will witness the release of albums that for many will be applauded, and that many artists offer the maximum effort to deliver that to their fans ... high quality material, and the next band that appears in this report has between hands to a great winner that marks the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Conexión Rock Radio this time establishes communication to the Netherlands where we talked with Mark Jansen, Guitarist and one of the main composers of the band EPICA, who this year entered through the big door with their new record production called OMEGA, which was released last February 26 and that represents his eighth work in his history. Epica's current lineup is conformed by of Mark Jansen- Guitars, Orchestrations and Vocals, Coen Janssen- Keyboards, Piano and Orchestrations, Simone Simons- Vocals, Ariën van Weesenbeek- Drums and Vocals, Isaac Delahaye- Guitars and Vocals, and Rob van der Loo- Bass. Jansen shares with all of you the concept that the band offers with its new album and how they have managed to launch this great effort in the midst of a global pandemic, the guests, and other details that you will learn about in the development of this interesting reading that marks Un Spiritual Journey Through The Labyrinth. Conexión Rock Radio: Mark, good afternoon back home!
I hope you are well with your family and bandmates, first of all thank you for the time you give us to make this special report and share with our readers in Latin America and the rest of the world the important news that Epica has in 2021, welcome ! Mark Jansen: Greetings everyone! Thanks to you Johonny for your interest in talking about what we have in our hands and we also send our good wishes so that all our fans are safe in their homes, and for that reason we have good surprises in this conversation! CR: Thanks Mark, as you know since 2020 the art industry has suffered with the Covid 19 pandemic all over the world, without concerts or tours. In the case of Epica, how has this situation affected you there in the Netherlands? MJ: For now this is all a difficult situation, at least for us everything that has happened in 2020 so far has not been entirely different, but at least we are happy that we can release the album, and we know that is the reason. that many fans were really looking forward to new material, all this time they have been sending us messages and expressing their good wishes towards the band. It was worth waiting for the new album to come out now, and everyone has received it with great joy in their homes, so it only remains on our part that people can enjoy the new album from beginning to end. CR: Let's talk about good news. The band released on February 26 their album number 8 called OMEGA through the label Nuclear Blast Records.
How do you feel about releasing a new album under these strange circumstances, and your expectations for what everyone considers to be one of the most anticipated releases of this year? MJ: We are very excited about the album now released, even though these are strange times as I mentioned before, we had to adapt to what happened when the pandemic appeared, and the best thing was to record new material, and especially to do in work in conjunction with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Of all the bad things I can tell you that we are very happy with this achievement, and it will only remain to know the reaction of the people and know their opinion with the album. CR: The pandemic has caused, as you know, cancellations of festivals around the world, in the same way that many could travel, leaving everyone with many plans truncated. How has it been for Epica to reinvent itself without financial income? MJ: An Omega part and orchestral parts were recorded before the home confinements came. The situation got worse and everything forced each of us to record our parts at home, for example, my voice was recorded in my studio at home, while Simone recorded everything in a place close to where she lives. So we had to wait a bit to adapt to the new situation, and we took advantage of that to do the acoustic sessions while we couldn't travel to the studio and complete everything. We found in this process a challenge and that we were able to overcome it without problems adapting to the current circumstance, and sometimes, things do not go as expected, but I am happy that we have found a way to finish the album by offering the fans a high quality work. CR: For this new album you had Stefan Heilemann's work on the cover, by the way , visually elegant.
We want to know what is the concept behind this new album. Does Epica tell us between the lines that we will witness the end of something? Everything marks a reference between the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning or the end of something. Could this work mark the end of a trilogy that began years ago with The Quantum Enigma? MJ: All of this is based on the Omega Point Theory, which talks about how things come together in a unification point, which for me is a beautiful theory and that perfectly fits into the album through the lyrics that speak. about ancient teachings, of Gnostic beliefs as in Abyss of Time for example, there are also references to the Emerald Tablets in the track Kingdom Of Heaven - Part III - The Antediluvian Universe, (which implies that it will be the last part) And for me, reading about the teachings of ancient wisdom has influenced me in trying to find the most beautiful things and use them as concepts in the lyrics. CR: This time the album has special guests, such is the case Vicky Psarakis from the band The Agonist with the song Twilight Reverie - The Hypnagogic State, and Zaher Zorgati from the band Myrath in Code of Life.
What impressions do you have of working with these great vocalists in the studio? MJ: When we started the writing process we had the feeling that something was missing in the songs. On Code Of Life we needed vocals that would give a special atmosphere, and Zaher put the finishing touch on it, giving the song a much higher profile For Twilight Reverie we were looking for a much more aggressive voice and we thought of Vicky, when we met her band and toured with them some time ago, we all considered her to be the ideal person for the song.
We contacted her to find out if it was okay for her to participate in this song, and she gladly agreed. CR: There are great songs here like Abyss of Time, Seal of Soloman, Code of Life, Kingdom of Heaven Part 3, The Skeleton Key, and Omega - Sovereign of the Sun Spheres.
We know that Omegacoustic appears in the special edition of the album and the surprise is that there is a song in Spanish called El Código Vital, which is the version of Code Of Life with Bosanova air, rumba, and Latin rhythms, and that Simone sings in Spanish. How did you feel doing this experiment of singing in another language? MJ: It was something pending that we had in mind to do many years ago, many fans asked us to do something in Spanish, so when we had the song ready we looked at the right moment to do it, it already has some Latin elements and adding lyrics in Spanish would do more special and perfect this version that appears in Omegacoustic. CR: A quick parenthesis: many want to know what is the current situation of your new project as United Metal Minds, we know that you were campaigning to produce the album. This question is sent to you by Mazatecpatl from the band Cemican from Mexico.
What details can you share about it? MJ: Greetings to Mazatecpatl over there! At this point we have not been able to record the album because when the pandemic spread to several continents and the measures were tightened it was impossible for people to travel by plane to record their parts. So basically all the music is finished and the only thing left is to send the lyrics to start the recording process of the album, so there is a lot of music and yes, I hope that soon we can start making some recordings, since with this situation that We still do not know exactly when we could have the whole process ready and it will be a mere matter of waiting how the pandemic behaves once the vaccines are applied. CR: We know that you as well as many bands and the entertainment industry worldwide were severely hit by this pandemic, since without income things are difficult for you, but this album has represented a relief for you and for the fans.
If this situation continues, do you have any strategy to stay afloat financially? MJ: That is a good question. If the situation continues for a long time, first we must thank the fans who have bought the album both on CD and on Vinyl, in the same way the rest of the official merchandise for Omega, for us that gesture represents a joy on their part. , and hopefully at some point we will play again, obviously for the band it is the main source of income and this is how we make a living. Fortunately with this situation we are very adventurous people, and we look for a way to survive in circumstances like this, and for several years we have prepared for emergencies like this, we had a plan, and the advantage that we collectively are very creative, that we always We come up with new ideas, so we have to find a way to adapt to the new situation. CR: What memories do you have of the band's first visit to Honduras on their Holographic Principle tour years ago?
MJ: I remember that visit, it was a very special night for everyone: band and fans had a great time, we saw in them a very enthusiastic audience and delivered with our songs from the beginning to the end of the show, after that we had a good time each one, having fun in their own way, having drinks, chatting with you, and dancing at the bar when they played something different. I remember that many told me "you are a metalhead, you should not dance that music" (laughs), you were there as a witness and the idea was to have a good time and have fun, music at that time was less important, and that date in Honduras was one of the more enjoyable on the tour. CR: Mark, what message do you want to send to all the people who read us in this special interview? And thank you very much for the time you gave us here at Rock Radio Connection
MJ: I want to thank you all for reading us, and I wish that you all help each other, take care of your families, everyone in general stay safe in your homes, and hopefully we will come out of this situation stronger than before and can make your life more beautiful to all of you with a live concert. CR: Mark, thanks for your time! The best for you and your bandmates with this new album! In the same way to our friends at Nuclear Blast for making this talk possible with you and we hope to speak again in the future. Have a perfect day at home! MJ: Thanks Johonny. A hug to all, and enjoy this new work that is for you! Special thanks to Markus Wosgien of the Nuclear Blast Records press and promotion team for his help in making this interview possible, and to Mark Jansen for the time allotted on this report.
