Anöjd
A New and Interesting Musical Incursion Ladies and gentlemen: Here we have an interesting proposal to share in this special interview that Conexion Rock Radio offers them this time, and that without a doubt after meeting our guests you will be part of their growing legion of fans who with their music seek to make a difference on the scene. Introducing all of you in this episode: Anöjd A band that has a curious cultural origin but that the passion for music brings its elements together in the same source, and that go through a great moment with the release of their record debut called Musickness, and that has been produced independently and in vinyl format. We talked to Brazil with Carlos Buchmann- Guitar and Vocals, and even Sweden with Hans Kollberg- Guitars to share the details of the origin of this project, and how his struggle has been until today, becoming one of the revelations on the map sonic of the Gothenburg scene, and they aspire in 2020 to go as far as possible with their proposal. Conexion Rock Radio: Carlos, Hans, it is an honor to have you in this special interview for our audience in Latin America who will know about the history and the next news that Anöjd will have for his fans in 2020, welcome! Carlos Buchmann / Hans Kollberg: Thanks to you for the interest, a joy to talk with all of you there in Latin America. CR: Start the interview in congratulating both of you on the release of your debut album called Musickness a few days ago.
How do you feel with the reactions that fans and critics have given to the album, for many it is the perfect way to start a new decade and with a new band? Hans Kollberg: Thank you very much for the congratulations, I feel good about the reaction we have received from various parties regarding the release of the album. I know that Carlos receives good comments from Brazil, and of course we have distributed the vinyl to friends and family. We still have work to do, we want to send the music to several radio stations in Europe. Carlos Buchmann: First of all, thanks for giving us this space to the band. We started making music without knowing the reaction we were going to have. I have lived in Brazil for many years, I moved to Portugal and I had that need, that anger of wanting to make new music. When we started everything in 2019, we had contemplated in doing this in Vinyl, and they told us: How the hell will you do that, do you have knowledge of production and mastering? We start with many limitations, we think that should be easier and not very complicated. When we started recording the album I was in charge of playing the drums, since we are only Hans and I take care of everything. And nobody thought we would do all that, I was in charge of recording the bass as well, and Hans contributed several solos. The computer for the recording we take it out of the trash without losing the glamor (laughs) and with free software we record this. People said: fuck! What a tremendous production they made! Seeing this result everything indicates looking for musicians to prepare new material. Hans: That was not a problem, it felt good to be in charge. We could make all the decisions on our own. But I was surprised by the result of the recording that I did not do, except that it should be so good in the end. CR: What experiences have left you in the recording and production of Musikness and what are your expectations in 2020?
Hans: When we started in early 2018, we had little experience in recording, but Carlos has given a great initiative for such learning. In 2020 we plan to record new songs, we already have between 6 and 7 songs for the next album. But this time we will manage everything possible to get financial help. CR: Let's talk about the origin of Anöjd, how did the idea that a musician from Brazil and another from Sweden formed an interesting band like this?
Hans: I met Carlos through a mutual friend, and we simply began to improvise, but after a while we discovered that we liked to play together, and decided to start making songs. And about the name, I'm not sure, but we liked it. Carlos: This all started years ago when I was with my band Hipnoid, as I told you before I recorded two albums with them until 2007, some time later I decided to travel outside Brazil for personal matters, and especially for the few working conditions that did not allow you to leave go ahead, and I had a long time without touching. But always carrying music in my life. I have traveled several countries and when I traveled to Sweden I met my partner. I worked in informal jobs and it was very difficult to get a residence there and it was depressive times that I lived in a completely monotonous and boring routine, I met Hans through a friend and we began to improvise and we recorded something, and I told him that After a while we were buying some things like the audio interface for example, and a person there reactive a vinyl press factory, and I showed him the interest of working with him, and he told me it is impossible for you to know about the process, what he I did not know I was eager to learn and it was achieved. The rest is for the story. The name Anöjd means in Swedish: Dissatisfied. |
CR: Musikness reminds me of Megadeth with: Killing Is my Business ... and Business is Good!
But in the case of Anöjd it would be: Music is our business and the disease of sound is good! From your point of view, how do you define Musickness? Hans: It's always difficult to define your own music, but my influences are classic rock, like Rush, Deep Purple, etc., I think the most modern hard rock, but I think the combination of styles was inspiring. For us it was important that we like music, we don't think it should be commercial. Carlos: Misickness is all my influence in music, it is a feeling that you cause to convert the bad to the good. When I started making music, everything changed in my life. CR: In this album are you looking to follow the same line you had years ago with Hipnoid, especially with the lyrics? Or do you think that for you this is a new page in your life? Carlos: That's right, we are pronounced by the nonconformity of people, religions, politicians, manipulation, and everything that oppresses us and makes us feel unhappy, although we do not have a completely anarchist approach and we have different points of view and thinking, and we shout: fuck with it! And we have to live together. CR: The band for this release made 100 copies on vinyl via SpinRoad vinyl in Gothenburg, generally the bands release their albums on CD, what motivated you to release it in this format despite the high prices at a pressure plant?
Hans: We just want vinyl, it's more fun to give vinyl to friends and family instead of CD. Carlos: We just wanted to make a vinyl edition with limited circulation. In Sweden we meet a person who has a relationship with people with Alice Cooper and Lemmy and helped us to make the run. Masterized everything with homemade plugin, and we wanted to show everyone that we wanted to make great material without the need for much money. Although many bands have their things on digital platforms and get certain benefits we do it by art, because you have to take away the mentality of people that everything is easy, that they throw the money at you, that a seal will support you or that a millionaire will knock at the door of your house with a briefcase full of money. People no longer listen to the CD, everything is now in digital, the art of the covers and lyrics is not appreciated, and many things cannot be done with it. As soon as the vinyl you can put it on the wall of your room and contemplate the details. That is the point. Everything must be of your own work and sometimes putting everything from your bag. When we released the album many people across Sweden have set their eyes on our work, and for us this effort was finally worth it. My intention is to make young people make their own music and make it available to everyone, and feel the passion of the effort in a studio. CR: If there is demand from fans, do you plan to release Musikness through a crowfunding or kickstarter campaign in the future?
Carlos: It would be interesting to be able to do that in the future. That would depend on the conditions to make a print run through a campaign, and it would be ideal to make the query from the networks if you are interested in having it, the idea is to release about 200 copies on vinyl, and I have the master to make a reissue, or see In what format they look favorable, in addition to putting it at a price accessible to the public along with the shipping costs, as I said the idea is that they enjoy music, and that they appreciate everything we do. We currently have some copies available, and if you wish to have any in your hands we leave you the contact so that you can order it without problems. Hans: Of course, if we believe it is necessary to release it, we do. CR: Is the band planning to travel through Sweden or other countries in 2020? Hans: For now we don't have tour plans, we want to put together a band, but it's difficult to find the right people for a band. Both Carlos and I have been in the band before and we have experience of how difficult it can be. Carlos: The idea as Hans said is to look for the right people, having a stable lineup we would do the first concerts and tour in several countries, with certainty it will be something interesting that there are four and not two musicians who accept this challenge very well. What is the vision that as musicians now have with this album that many consider an important step in their career? Hans: I hope some people like music, I will be proud that this project has generated that reaction that we were looking for from the beginning, and that with the next album we can get help to make this possible. What message do you want to send to those who listened to us on this day and who are now new Anöjd fans, and thank you for the time to respond in this special interview for Rock Radio Connection. Carlos: Thanks to you and for the interest in the band, my message is that they support the bands with new proposals, go to their shows, give space to those who work independently buy their CDs, so they will enjoy their work, that this It will grow the local scene and make them feel satisfied with what they do to get far. Hans: I want to thank all the new Anöjd fans, and I hope they continue our journey, and thank you very much to you Johonny for the questions for your readers and listeners of your radio station. Special thanks to Carlos and Hans for the time they gave us to make this interview possible
