LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT

LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT
MARTYR Independent Review by Johonny Gonzalez @conexionrockhn Here we bring you a new and interesting release that will be mandatory for you to have by the end of this decade, and especially in this year 2019 that has been of many surprises in relation to albums that are outlined on the one hand as favorites for prizes and nominations, and on the other that will be reference classics in the future. This is the case of the debut of Lindsay Schoolcraft, renowned Vocalist and Multi Instrumentalist who has had a variety of projects in her musical career including Antiqva, Daedalean Complex, Schoolcraft or The Astroplex to mention some examples, and her participation as a guest for several bands like Cadaveria, Belzebubs, Fallen Legion and Karmaflow. At the moment Lindsay is in charge of the Keyboards and Voices one of the most outstanding bands of the extreme panorama as it is Cradle Of Filth, and that now presents an interesting page as a soloist, which explores several aspects of Gothic Rock, Classical music, New Age and Alternative Metal, offering the listener an attractive proposal that is difficult to reject. We refer to his debut called Martyr, which came to light on October 11 with 11 tracks and with a duration of 48 minutes here Lindsay is surrounded by an interesting team such as being an ex-drummer of EVANESCENCE, Rocky Gray (who I would be in charge of the Guitars, Bass and programmed effects), and Xenoyr of the NE OBLIVISCARIS band.
Production and Mastering are in charge fromTyler Williams and Lasse Lamment. We enter the sonic section without further ado: the cover was made by the artist Anastasia Solti, showing a beautiful and caricatured Schoolcraft, and that is where fans could make several interpretations: A Martyr ... A Saint ... or an Angel with his ethereal voice and its Harp have incarnated among mortals to delight us where a poetic and metallic aura would unleash from beginning to end with this album. The beginning is represented by Savior, which represents the second single is imposed in a gothic and classical atmosphere that is contrasted with Gregorian chants, and that is where you are aware of what would come in the rest of the album.
In Dangerous Game is another track that will not leave you indifferent, and that will generate a strong energy in the live, in the same way Stranger that far from following the same line plays with fast and part-time variations, a resource that is a great advantage in this work making this enjoyable and avoiding skips between songs. The romantic part (let's call it that ...) is represented in Into The Night, whose chords will remind us of the first Nightwish, especially with The Carpenter of his classic work Angels Fall First of 97.
In Blood From A Stone the electric instruments take silence to let Lindsay and his Piano be the protagonists, and that will undoubtedly be one of the most requested tracks live or in acoustic presentations. Dawn would represent as the intermediate part of the album that precedes Remember, perhaps we would all think that it would continue in the same line as the previous song but with the development of it will lead us to a crescendo with completely melodic and ethereal atmospheres, where the vocals and choirs impose a special seal. In See The Light we find the duet Schoolcraft / Xenoyr a great role between clean and guttural vocals that will make this act another strengths point from Martyr, while Where I Fall is presented in a half-time with industrial elements, maintaining the character strong that Lindsay offers us in this song.
My Way Without You is without a doubt the ballad of the album that will cause it to be sung in concert, and together with Into The Night are acts where the lights go out so that the piano is lit by candles, making these special moments within this work. The closing could not be memorable, and it is an adaptation of the classic of The Cure: Lullaby, which Lindsay makes it his own, and that is the letter of presentation of this work which guarantees that it will be received with open arms to those who have followed for several years, and that for Lindsay is the satisfaction of a dream that had been in the air for a long time, and that now is a reality embodied in music called Martyr.
In conclusion: if you are a fan of bands like Evanescence, Within Temptation, Nightwish, The Gathering, Ananthema, Delain, and Amaranthe you will look in this album as a breath of fresh air that avoids a repetition between songs, and that has managed to explore several areas, making this production something completely versatile and digestible musically speaking, this being an advantage that Schoolcraft has taken advantage of remarkably, and that for many this work has been trial by fire, which surpass with all the honors, where it has left us fascinated, and that it will only be a matter of time for her to delight us with another musical page in a promising and brilliant career in a music industry that with courage she has managed to break through!
