Kill Grid Century Media Records Review by Johonny González @conexionrockhn If you are one of those who are looking for interesting proposals within the vast metal map around the world, here we have one that will fulfill your expectations, and that surely once you listen to its material you will expect new deliveries in the future that will be in the same line or as its components they are committed to doing high quality works. This is the example of the band Enforced. Originally from Richmond, United States, they have surprised locals and strangers with a severe sonic assault called Kill Grid, which was released on March 12, 2021 via Century Media Records, and which marks their debut with this record label. We must remember that the band was formed in 2016, and that their record debut was in 2019 with At The Walls, which is a compilation of two new songs + several demos released in 2017. All this completely remastered, and that in currently they are conformed by Ethan Gensurowsky- Bass, Alex Bishop- Drums, Will Wagstaff and Zach Monahan- Guitars, and Knox Colby- Vocals. Composed of 9 tracks, released in CD and Vinyl format with 41 minutes of sonic attack, it´s indicative that with this work the band is taking a real step in its career both on the national and international circuit, and this is where you notice a remarkable evolution of the Thrash and Chrossover that they present in their first album, and that in this new one the elements of Thrash / Death Metal predominate, resulting in the critics and the fans giving the thumbs up and receiving it with a tremendous standing ovation. The album starts with The Doctrine, and a better way to start moving your head!
With the first seconds of a gloomy intro the band comes with everything, letting it be understood between the lines that Kill Grid will be a mere mountaineering exercise, and that throughout the album we are guaranteed that we will enjoy it at full volume. The premise is fulfilled when UXO (second single and promotional video) is played, the entire rhythmic base acts as a motor that rhythmically hits the pistons, and that Knox's voice gives it that flavor, making this track one of the most liked for future setlists. With Beneath Me the band tells us "take a quick breath, here comes more" and if you are in a moshpit it is guaranteed that in 2 and a half minutes you could leave with pain in your neck or with slight bruises after a violent shake that you will leave you wanting more. If you are one of the fans of bands like Sepultura, Slayer or Cannibal Corpse, you will see that their sound carries their DNA, and this reinforces a powerful focus on their proposal. But don´t be scared, these young musicians seek to offer a wide sound spectrum in this work, so that aspect can feel calm. Another punch in the face is represented by Malignance, which was the first single for Kill Grid, the perfect letter of introduction of the band for everyone, which has left a great taste in the mouth for what would be months later the release of this album.
We go to the end of the first half of this work and the title track of the album appears, by the way the longest of the work with 7 and a half minutes, here the Enforced give us a true roller coaster that begins in a calm way, but with the breakthrough in the next few minutes is a veritable storm of riffs and speed.
With Curtain Fire here we have one of the most rhythmic and interesting points of this work, and a classic that time will give it its deserved place in the history of the band, in the same way with Hemorrhage as with a bass line and drums that we vaguely reminiscent of Kreator's Terrorzone, ensuring that our attention hears this execution, and that it more than fulfills its mission. The final part would come in a glorious way in every sense of the word from the hand of two songs: Blood Ribbon and Trespasser. Blood Ribbon shows us some technical and dedicated Enfoced demonstrating that old school sound that we like so much. In the same vein we arrive at Trespasser, and far from being a slow track they offer us a true sonic demolition with a relentless rain of riffs and mid-times that end in a dignified way and that will bring you memories of other iconic musicians such as Vio- Lence with that Eternal Nightmare that will leave you feeling like you have a severe pain in your neck to the point of repeating the dose again with a few beers and a lot of food. In conclusion: we have in Kill Grid a safe bet that guarantees to blow your mind from the first moment, and that this work will be one of the most interesting points of 2021 as far as Thrash Metal is concerned. Of its components we give the thumb or the horns up to make this album a true piece of sound artillery, which is destined to be in the coming years a classic in his discography, and to continue in this same evolutionary line of his sound and in their working relationship with Century Media Records, we could see in the not too distant future that the Enforced name will be one of the label's considered workhorses, and that these North Americans will shine in their own right at many festivals and tours around the world. world. If you're a fan of the old school sound make sure you have your supply of beers ready, your vintage Slayer t-shirt, play it loud, buckle up, and enjoy the ride. If you want to moshpit with your friends, try not to demolish the living room of your house, this work is dangerously fun and according to the doctors do it at your own risk as many times as necessary! Rating: 9/10
