KREATOR
KREATOR
Hate Über Alles Nuclear Blast Records Review by Johnny Gonzalez @conexionrockhn For lovers of Thrash Metal around the world, whether they are from the old guard or the new generation, they will celebrate in a big way because one of the most notable exponents of the genre returns in a big way, and with a new album under his arm, being from already one of the best releases for the second half of this 2022. And we are referring to the Germans Kreator, who present us with their 15th production entitled Hate Über Alles, which will be released on June 10, 2022 through Nuclear Blast Records, and whose release consolidates a 40-year career where several of his works are considered worldwide as classic, cult, and influential for other bands. The protagonists of this new adventure are Miland “Mille” Petrozza- Guitar and Vocals, Sami Yli-Sirniö- Guitars, Jürgen “Ventor” Reil- Drums, and the new addition is represented by Frédéric Leclercq on Bass who replaces Christian Giesler after a long period of contributions to the band that spanned from 1995 with Cause for Conflict, being Gods Of Violence from 2017 his last work.
Let's take into account that Leclercq joins the band in 2019 debuting with the video 666 - World Divided, he is a musician who has several projects alongside Kreator, and that for this new album he has contributed very interesting things, being Amahiru, Loudblast, Menace and Sinsaenum were his alternate bands and he was also a bassist for another great band such as Dragonforce.
Let's talk now about Hate Über Alles, it lasts 46:14 and is made up of 11 songs, there are no bonus tracks or B-sides here, the tracklist is the same in all its versions, and it was produced by Arthur Rizk at the Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin, and has worked with bands like Sacred Reich, Cirith Ungol, Cavalera Conspiracy, Enforced, Municipal Waste, Power Trip, among others.
The cover is done by the talented Eliran Kantor. According to Petrozza, the translation of the album is “Hate Above Everything”, it is a phrase that came to him after looking more closely at the world around him.
With political and personal ideologies exacerbated by the Internet age, he points out how we are all now forced to exist in a society that is moving ever closer to the extreme. “Hate Über Alles reflects the times we live in,” says Mille. "Everything is really loud and aggressive." The way we communicate has changed, thanks to social networks. It causes a lot of imbalance. The world is going through a bad time. Life is not harmonious at this time, it is disharmony. The album starts with an intro called Sergio Corbucci Is Dead.
The first reference points us to this character who was a Film Director who was born in 1926 and who was considered in life as a pioneer in the genre of spaghetti westerns, and together with Sergio Leone and Sergio Sollima he is considered one of the great directors of the mediterranean western. Cobucci passed away in Rome in December 1990. So by the time you get going in the first few seconds you'll hear western-style choruses, especially on acoustic guitars, and for his next tour it will be the starting point for the next track to come. is the one that gives the album its title, and that is the first single and therefore its first promotional video: Hate Über Alles, Mille's uncontrolled hatred in the 3.48 duration of this track that invites you to scream in rebellion, and in certain moments our minds can play with other melodies within the glorious past of the Germans, one of those examples could be with Hordes Of Chaos or United In Hate where inevitably our heads move to the rhythm of the chorus of the song and especially with a thunderous scream at the end. Killer Of Jesus arrives mercilessly, which will undoubtedly seek to have the desired prominence in live performances, Kreator is characteristic of speaking without mincing words about politicians, wars, evil, death, and especially religion, another favorite for fans who are looking for refresh your mind with new things.
As if taken from a scene from a war movie with an army marching in the wasteland, Crush the Tyrants appears, with a mid-tempo that does not lose power and that the band is assembled like a greased machine to offer one of the high points of this album. The second promotional single appears and the next one on the album tracklist: Strongest Of The Strong that talks about how the world suffers from various problems such as pollution that affects animals and the human environment, wars and how people are released to the streets to demonstrate for their rights to show a few that many are the strongest.
In Become Immortal we go back to speed with a lot of rhythm at the end of the first half of the album where he reflects on where we come from, what we do in this world to do something and leave a mark to literally live in history despite the good and bad moments Become Immortal is an analogy that Kreator has experienced in its early years going through that evolution of Thrash with roots of Death and Black Metal to move on to its experimental phase to live this transition that since the 2000s has put them back in the gaze of all in various continents around the world. Conquer and Destroy show us some very technical and melodic Kreator where the guitars of Mille and Sami have a leading role from start to finish. The third video arrives and with it one of the strongest points of the album, and we bet very much that this track will be one of the favorites of the band's fans, and that by way of a fierce, frenetic and insane sonic attack it reincarnates in something called Midnight Sun, and this is where the collaboration of Sofia Portanet appears on the vocals, giving a perfect balance with Mille, especially the choirs, and it will be inevitable that we repeat this song ad nauseam.
As a curiosity, it should be noted that with Portanet this would be the second vocal duet in the history of Kreator, previously in 1999 for the album Endorama they would have the participation of Tilo Wolff from the band Lacrimosa. The song reflects the vivid events of the Midsommar festivities in Sweden. After the adrenaline rush in Midnight Sun we fall to Demonic Future, here this track could be a candidate for a next single with its respective video and that could also appear in the setlists of their next tours.
Almost in the final stretch we come across Pride Comes Before the Fall, a delicious trip uphill to the top of the mountain to reach the conclusion of this trip with the dark Dying Planet where Leclercq contributes in composition with Petrozza, and it's something sure that from here on the compositional chemistry between its components will be volatile as far as ideas are concerned. In conclusion, we have another great Kreator album that will be a candidate to be one of the best releases of 2022, the pandemic has not weakened them, on the contrary, it has served as a channel for the band to direct that anger and frustration that they experienced in these months of confinement without being able to get close to the fans, but now with the restrictions that have gradually been lifted in various countries around the world, the outlook for the Teutonic combo seems more than promising, and now with Hate Über Alles it is the premise perfect for many around the world to receive it with open arms and for us to be part of a new ritual of celebration. This is the result of a formula that was perfected since the early 2000s, and that with each album the experiment is repeated, but they are polished in a better way so that the results are effective until now. Despite having a 40-year career, Kreator live with greater intensity as if they were 20, guaranteeing that with this sonic pattern they can offer more works in the coming years that will become classics over time. The devil has returned... and Never Lower the Flag of Hate! Rating: 9/10 Track list:
01. Sergio Corbucci Is Dead 02. Hate Uber Alles 03. Killer Of Jesus 04. Crush The Tyrants 05. Strongest Of The Strong 06. Become Immortal 07. Conquer And Destroy 08.Midnight Sun 09. Demonic Future 10. Pride Comes Before The Fall 11. Dying Planet Support Kreator by buying this new material that we highly recommend in its various formats either from their official store or from Nuclear Blast Records, we definitely have another great competitor in their already established discography. |
